Disneyland Resort’s Casey Jr. Circus Train ride, one of the park’s original opening-day attractions, was recently shut down after an incident left several guests temporarily trapped aboard.
The attraction opened alongside Disneyland Park on July 17, 1955, but closed almost immediately due to safety concerns. On July 31, 1955, the Casey Jr. Circus Train reopened and has provided a whimsical ride through Storybook Land ever since. Over the years, Imagineers have added new miniature scenes to the area inspired by films like Aladdin (1992) and The Little Mermaid (1989).

A breakdown recently forced the Casey Jr. Circus Train to close unexpectedly, leaving several guests stuck aboard the train. One guest, @izzys.busy._ on TikTok, shared her experience in a video:
@izzys.busy._ it was literally a locked cage #disneyland #inshowexit #caseyjrcircustrain #fantasyland #disney #jet2holidays #nothingbeatsajet2holiday #fyp #foryou #foryoupage
“Throwback to getting stuck on the Casey Jr. Train in Disneyland…Stuck in a literal cage,” the Disney Park guest wrote. “…It was literally a locked cage.”
The short video shows the moment when guests were trapped, and also offers a look at Disney cast members who worked quickly to unlock the safety restraints and guide the riders out. Once freed, the guests were escorted through an unauthorized area uphill to get back to Disneyland Park.

It’s unclear what caused the iconic ride to break down, and as is typical with Disneyland Resort, the company hasn’t provided further details. The Disney parks usually avoid releasing statements about minor attraction issues, and this instance followed that trend.
After the incident, the Casey Jr. Circus Train reopened, but it’s now closed for scheduled maintenance. The Disneyland Resort website has posted its refurbishment calendar, which lists the ride’s schedule through September 9, 2025, but the train is not expected to return before then. Guests are encouraged to check the official website or the Disneyland Resort app for updates.
