Cast Member Intervenes as Guest Tries to Steal From Stroller

There’s a lot to love about Animal Kingdom. From the immersive theming to the wild rides to the chance to see animals up close, it’s a favorite for many Disney guests. But lately, some visitors have gotten a little too close to the wildlife… and their snacks have paid the price.

A squirrel was recently caught on video doing what some guests say is now a regular occurrence: stealing food off a table while the humans were distracted. The footage is both hilarious and a little shocking—because the squirrel doesn’t hesitate for a second. It knows the game and plays it well.

These “squirrel bandits,” as fans are calling them, are small but bold. And they’re just one part of a bigger issue at Disney parks—keeping your stuff safe.

Beyond the squirrels, there’s a more frustrating problem: guest-on-guest theft. Yes, it’s rare. But stories have popped up of people losing valuable items from strollers. One family returned to find their souvenir popcorn bucket gone. Another lost a diaper bag with a wallet inside. It’s the kind of thing that makes you wonder: Should I really leave my stroller unattended?

To help avoid being a target—whether from animals or people—here’s what you can do:

  • Keep bags zipped and hidden. Don’t leave items in plain sight in your stroller. Toss a towel over your stuff to keep it low-profile.

  • Always take valuables with you. If it’s something you can’t replace, bring it on the ride.

  • Avoid open food in outdoor areas. Squirrels are fast and can grab it before you even realize what’s happening.

  • Use lockers when needed. Especially if you plan to be on rides most of the day.

  • Let Cast Members know if you notice something off. Whether it’s an animal creeping too close or someone acting sketchy, they’re there to help.

So yes, squirrels at Disney World really are stealing food. But the bigger message is this: it’s always smart to be cautious. Whether you’re trying to protect your churro or your designer backpack, staying alert can save your day from turning into a cautionary tale.

Because at Animal Kingdom, it’s not just the rides that are wild—it’s everything in between.
