With the Halloween release date official for Hocus Pocus 2 (2022), fans of the original Disney Halloween classic have been looking for more details of the casting and plot for the all-new sequel. The original cast of the Sanderson Sisters has been on board with the film for years now, and we’ve just learned about some of the new cast members who are joining Hocus Pocus for the first time!
Starting with the Sanderson Sisters, the iconic trio from the original 1993 film will be back with Bette Midler playing Winifred Sanderson, Kathy Najimy playing Mary Sanderson, and Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson. Doug Jones will also be reprising his role as Billy Butcherson (aka Winifred’s long-dead ex-boyfriend) in the sequel as well.
As for other original cast members, we may need to wait until the film’s release to confirm any final surprises. So far, fans have been hopeful for the return of characters like Dani Dennison played by Thora Birch and Thackery Binx (Jason Marsden) however while they have expressed interest in the project their participation has not been announced. It does not seem like Max and Allison fit into the storyline of the new film, however, if we learn of more returning cast members we will keep you updated!

Marsden’s character may not make sense to return for the sequel where (spoiler alert!) his soul was freed and he was able to leave his feline body and return to his sister in the original Walt Disney Pictures film. The sequel follows the story of a new set of high schoolers in Salem who mistakenly wake the Sanderson Sisters, and where this storyline is set 29 years in the future, having Binx return may not be possible.
As for new characters, the teenagers responsible for the return of the Sanderson Sisters will include Whiney Peak (playing the role of Becca) or Gossip Girl fame, Belissa Escobedo (Izzy), and Lilia Buckingham (Cassie). Other new cast members include Sam Richardson, Tony Hale, and Froy Gutierrez.
Since Hocus Pocus 2 will also include flashback footage of the Sanderson Sisters that takes place prior to 1693 (the start of the first film), a new set of actresses will be playing the younger versions of the witches. Taylor Henderson has joined the project to portray a young Winifred Sanderson, Juju Journey Brener will play young Sarah Sanderson, and Nina Kitchen will play a younger version of Mary Sanderson.
We are so excited to finally get a sequel to this fan-favorite Disney film this “spooky season,” and we will be back with more details as we have them on all things Hocus Pocus!
