Cedar Point Issues Closure Notice Effective July 31, 2025

On July 31, 2025, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation made an announcement regarding a significant closure at Cedar Point. Guests visiting Cedar Point Shores Waterpark have been advised that the park will be closed effective immediately due to hazardous conditions. Here’s what visitors need to know about the temporary closure.

Located in Sandusky, Ohio, Cedar Point is the second-oldest continuously operating theme park in the United States. Over its 155-year history, it has become a must-visit destination for roller coaster enthusiasts, offering some of the most thrilling rides in the world. In 1988, the park expanded with the addition of its first-ever water park, Soak City, which later became known as Cedar Point Shores Waterpark. The waterpark has been a popular addition to the park ever since, providing guests a chance to cool off after a long day in the summer heat.

In 2024, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and Six Flags announced a historic merger, bringing together over two dozen North American theme parks under the newly formed Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. This merger marked a new chapter for the parks, including Cedar Point.

Unfortunately, Cedar Point has had a challenging week due to inclement weather and an internal tragedy. On July 27, 2025, law enforcement responded to a tragic incident at the employee housing complex on First Street in Sandusky. Police later confirmed that a theme park employee had passed away after jumping from one of the housing buildings. Out of respect for the employee and their family, no further identifying information was released to the public.

Following reports of flooding at the theme park earlier this week, @CedarPoint posted the following notice in an Instagram story:

“Due to weather conditions, Cedar Point Shores Waterpark will not open today, Thursday, July 31. Waterpark tickets purchased for today will be valid until September 1, 2025.”

The same notice was also posted on the official Cedar Point website, confirming that the waterpark’s operations would be halted for the day. However, the good news is that Cedar Point Shores Waterpark is scheduled to reopen on Friday, August 1, 2025, with operations resuming as planned at 11:00 a.m. Guests are encouraged to check official social media channels or the Cedar Point website for the latest updates on park conditions and potential changes in operating hours.

Cedar Point Shores Waterpark will remain closed for the rest of July 31, 2025, but guests can still expect it to be open on August 1. Guests with tickets for the closed day have been assured that their tickets will remain valid through September 1, 2025, ensuring they won’t lose their ability to visit the park during the 2025 season.
