If there’s one thing Disney fans know, it’s that the parks thrive on their attention to detail. At EPCOT, the in-ground lighting at World Celebration Gardens has been a key part of its charm. For years, the lighting enhanced the area’s futuristic design, making nighttime visits feel like stepping into another world. However, the system fell into disrepair, leaving fans disappointed and the gardens less vibrant. Now, it looks like Disney is finally taking action to restore this beloved feature.

During a recent visit, we noticed a significant shift: the opaque plastic covers that once blocked the lighting are being swapped out for translucent materials. This change alone suggests Disney has big plans for the feature’s return. With the new covers installed, light can shine through again, recreating the magic that guests have missed.

Of course, repairing the covers is just the first step. The lighting system itself needs to be functional for this update to matter. However, Disney’s decision to reintroduce the translucent covers signals that they’re investing in a complete restoration. Why else would they go through the trouble of making these changes?

There’s even more reason to believe the lighting’s return is imminent. In the updated finale of Soarin’ Around the World, EPCOT is shown at night, and the in-ground lighting at World Celebration Gardens is prominently featured. Despite being non-operational at the time, this choice to include the lighting seems like a promise to fans that the feature isn’t gone for good.

The timing couldn’t be better. World Celebration Gardens has undergone plenty of updates recently, and the return of its lighting would complete the transformation. The area connects guests to different parts of the park, including World Nature and World Discovery, and its central location makes it a perfect spot for relaxing and soaking in the atmosphere. Restoring the lighting would enhance these experiences, bringing back the unique aesthetic that EPCOT is known for.

Fans are understandably excited about this progress. The in-ground lighting isn’t just a functional feature—it’s part of EPCOT’s identity. Its return would symbolize Disney’s commitment to maintaining the park’s immersive environment, where every detail contributes to the magic.

As EPCOT continues to grow and change, it’s comforting to see Disney revisit elements that fans hold dear. The restoration of World Celebration Gardens’ lighting is a step in the right direction, blending nostalgia with the park’s ongoing evolution. Here’s hoping the lights turn on soon, welcoming us all back to the garden’s glow.
