Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Closed Indefinitely at Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort guests were disappointed on Wednesday when EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind unexpectedly ceased operations. The Marvel Studios-themed roller coaster, known for its reverse launch, remains indefinitely closed, and there is no timeline for its reopening.

On Wednesday morning, EPCOT opened without Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Guests who had secured Virtual Queue and Lightning Lane Single Pass reservations could not access the attraction, which has remained closed throughout the day.

Redditor u/mickyrow42 shared a screenshot of the My Disney Experience app showing the ride’s unavailability:

Walt Disney World Resort guests expressed frustration in the comments.

“I knew me being able to join the VQ AND get a LLSP for today was too good to be true,” wrote u/spamgoddess.

Another guest, u/meinmyownhead502, added: “Threw a wrench into my opening day plans but this happens.”

Operational Challenges Earlier This Week

The indefinite closure follows a week of technical issues for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Earlier in the week, only one side of the ride’s dual-track system was operational, leading to significant delays and limited capacity. Boarding Groups typically called earlier in the day weren’t notified until late evening, and many could not ride at all.

Guests faced extended waits for Virtual Queue and Lightning Lane access, with reports of delays lasting up to two hours. Guests whose Boarding Groups weren’t called received messages indicating they could not be accommodated.

A guest who reportedly spoke with a Disney cast member suggested that the issue stemmed from a part overheating. Technicians reportedly worked late into Tuesday evening to troubleshoot the problem and test the ride.

“They have been able to keep the ride running by sending out fewer cars at a specific interval until the part arrives and is implemented and fixed,” the EPCOT guest explained. “…Hence running only one side right now, and how slow groups are being called.”

The same Walt Disney World Resort cast member noted that the team hoped to resolve the issue by the end of the week but couldn’t guarantee a specific timeline.

“Of course, who knows if what he said was the full story or actual situation, but he seemed knowledgeable and hopefully time will show he was on point,” the Disney Park guest concluded.
