D23 Opens Sign-Ups for ‘Mousequerade’ Cosplay Contest

Okay, Disney Fanatics! Now is your chance to show everyone what an awesome Disney Prince, Princess, Pirate, Jedi, Sith Lord, Avenger, or whatever other Disney characters you can become!

In preparation for the Expo later this year, D23 has opened submissions for its ‘Mousequerade’ Cosplay contest! The sign-up for contestants opened on February 28 and will remain open until April 1, 2022.

D23 writes on its website:

A ghoulish delight or a Jedi knight, a princess fair or a Country Bear… D23 Expo presented by Visa will again feature the ever-popular Mousequerade costume contest. Fans are invited to design Disney-inspired costumes for this incomparable competition. Past entries have displayed unparalleled creativity and innovation. This year will be no exception, as dozens of finalists will show off their extraordinary designs before a panel of celebrity judges.

However, it should be noted that not everyone who signs up will be able to take center stage in Anaheim on September 9. Those lucky finalists will be decided upon and notified by April 29.

Here are D23’s sign up instructions:

  1. Contestants must be members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club to enter. Please visit JoinD23.com for membership details.
  2. Those interested in entering the costume contest must complete the Entry Form and submit three to five total sketches and/or photos of their costume design by April 1, 2022 at 6pm PT along with the costume title, description (75 words or less), costume dimensions, and list of materials; see the Official Rules for full entry details. (Entrants do not need to have their full costume finished by this date).
  3. Contest entries will be judged on the basis of 1) creativity and originality 2) creative use of category theme 3) use of materials.
D23 Mousequerade

Contestants can submit to four different categories: Off the screen, Imagine That!, Magical Mash-ups, and Cast of Characters. 

Contestants should keep in mind that “Off the screen” and “Imagine That!” only allow single-person entries. “Magical Mash-ups” allows pairs, and “Cast of Characters” requires a minimum of two people per entry but a maximum of eight people per entry.

Judges will be Nina West, Yvette Nicole Brown, Ashley Eckstein, and Ally Maki.

Top 10 finalists for each category will receive a complimentary one-day ticket to the D23 Expo on September 9. But finalist declared Best In Show will receive a trophy, a certificate, and $2,300.
