Deadpool’s New Voice: Neil Patrick Harris Takes Over From Ryan Reynolds

A fresh chapter is opening for one of Marvel’s most irreverent characters—Deadpool is returning, but not in the way fans might expect.

While Ryan Reynolds remains the face of the Merc with a Mouth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a new Deadpool project will feature a very different voice behind the mask. This unexpected change comes with the announcement that Neil Patrick Harris will take over the role for an upcoming virtual reality game.

Reynolds’ connection to Deadpool is well known. After a rough start in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he fully became the character in 2016’s Deadpool, mixing sharp humor with emotional moments. The 2018 sequel, Deadpool 2, made the character even more popular. In 2024, Reynolds returned in Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool’s first official film in the MCU. That movie made over $1.3 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.

Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool’s MCU Journey

Now that Deadpool is part of the MCU, Reynolds has shown interest in future stories. He talked about teaming up with the Avengers in upcoming movies like Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). These films will explore the multiverse and bring many heroes together. Reynolds’s Deadpool is expected to play a big role in these stories.

But while Reynolds continues with the movies, Deadpool is also heading in a new direction. This time, the character is coming to virtual reality. The new project offers fans a chance to step inside Deadpool’s world in a way they never have before.

Deadpool’s New Voice and VR Adventure

The new game, Deadpool VR, is being made by Twisted Pixel and Oculus Studios, with Marvel Games involved too. It will be released only on Meta Quest 3 and 3S in late 2025. In the game, Deadpool is pulled into a strange place called Mojoworld. There, he signs a suspicious contract and travels through many Marvel locations.

Players will use parkour and combat skills, shooting, shoving, and even skewering enemies with swords. This action-packed gameplay fits Deadpool’s wild and funny style perfectly.

Neil Patrick Harris – known for How I Met Your Mother and A Series of Unfortunate Events, as well as routinely hosting the Candlelight Processional at Walt Disney World Resort during the holiday season – will be the new voice of Deadpool. Harris’s version keeps the character’s famous fourth-wall-breaking humor. In the trailer, he jokes about being controlled by the player and even complains about having to work on this game instead of being in a Spider-Man game made by Insomniac.

This change shows Marvel wants to try new things with Deadpool outside the movies. While Ryan Reynolds stays on the big screen, Neil Patrick Harris will bring a fresh and interactive take to the Merc with a Mouth.
