The Florida Legislature just passed a bill this week that will essentially allow Governor Ron DeSantis to keep up his fight with The Walt Disney Company, as well as his other duties as Governor, while he runs for the White House.
Up until this point, the State of Florida was one of the few states with a “resign to run” rule. Meaning that any standing Governor would have to first resign his post just to be able to run for the highest office in the land. However, the Republican-controlled Florida House of Representatives and State Senate reportedly agreed to pass a bill that would end that practice, allowing Governor DeSantis to remain governor.
The bill awaits the Governor’s signature when he returns to Tallahassee.

The legislation is most likely due to the event that Governor DeSantis’ run turns out to be a bust. He can remain Governor of The Sunshine State and pursue the remainder of his second and possibly third term (if he decides to run once again). The State of Florida allows its Governors to hold three consecutive terms.
This means that there is no looming deadline for DeSantis–or Disney, for that matter–to settle this issue before candidates start gearing up for the 2024 election, allowing the battle to follow him into the elections even more closely for better or worse.
Gov. DeSantis has already faced criticism from the media, his opposition, and even his fellow Republicans over his spat with Walt Disney World Resort over control of the Central Florida special district, now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, with a new board. Only time will tell at this point how much it will affect his campaign–if he decides to run at all.
