Thousands Boycott as Disney Welcomes McDonald’s to Park

As Disneyland Paris Resort undergoes multiple refurbishment projects, one major addition is turning heads. McDonald’s has begun construction on a brand-new location in Disney Village.

A New McDonald’s is Coming to Disney Village

In September 2023, Disneyland Paris Resort confirmed plans for a new McDonald’s location near Lake Disney in Disney Village, the resort’s bustling shopping and dining district. Shortly after the announcement, construction walls went up, and in 2024, crews officially broke ground on the new fast-food spot.

The addition comes as Disneyland Paris continues a wave of dining refurbishments, including multiple Starbucks locations inside Disney Resort hotels that recently closed for renovations. The current McDonald’s location in Disney Village will continue operating until the new restaurant is ready, with an expected opening in early 2026.

McDonald’s Long History With Disney

While McDonald’s still has a presence at Walt Disney World Resort—notably, a stand-alone restaurant near Disney’s All-Star Resorts—it once had a much larger footprint across Disney’s U.S. parks. In the past, McDonald’s operated French fry and nugget carts inside Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, and Disneyland Park, and it even ran a full-service location at Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs). However, Disney and McDonald’s phased out their in-park partnership in the mid-2000s. Today, the two companies still collaborate on marketing campaigns, particularly through Disney-themed Happy Meal promotions.

McDonald’s expansion at Disneyland Paris Resort makes sense from a business perspective. Despite France’s reputation for fine dining, McDonald’s remains the country’s second-largest fast-food chain, with over 1,500 locations nationwide. Between international visitors looking for familiar fare and local guests seeking an affordable meal, the new McDonald’s is sure to be a popular addition to Disney Village.

Controversy Surrounding McDonald’s

Despite its popularity, McDonald’s has faced recent backlash. Pro-Palestinian groups have launched boycotts against the brand due to its ties to Israel, sparking global controversy. Despite these protests, construction on the Disneyland Paris Resort location is moving full steam ahead.
