Perhaps one of the most beloved actors of all time is nonagenarian Dick Van Dyke. The Missouri-born actor has been a staple of the entertainment industry for more than sixty years and has starred in a number of hit films and television shows, including The Dick Van Dyke Show, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Diagnosis Murder, and Bye Bye Birdie. Disney fans will, of course, know him for his roles in Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins Returns, and Night at the Museum. He was also the voice of Captain Goof Beard in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
Van Dyke is almost 100 years old and will celebrate his 98th birthday this December. However, he is always proving that age is just a number. He isn’t acting as much as he used to, but he can still be seen out and about in Malibu, California. He has been photographed attending exercise classes with his wife, and even giving out money to the homeless. Van Dyke even shared a video of himself learning how to play the ukulele.
Through his decades of acting, Mr. Van Dyke has amassed quite a fortune, and, according to a new report from Radar Online, he wants to spend it all before he goes. Sources close to the actor revealed that, while he was once known for being frugal, he has decided to spoil his family during the years that he has left. He has five children, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
“All it takes is for them to say they want ANYTHING, and it’s theirs… He’s got more than enough money and he’d rather share it while he’s alive,” the insider added.
His family members aren’t the only ones Mr. Van Dyke is sharing his wealth with. As stated above, he also takes time out of his day to help those looking for work. More than once, Van Dyke has headed to the Malibu Labor Exchange, a nonprofit organization that helps people find work and pairs employers with potential employees. The people around the Labor Exchange call the actor “an angel from God.”
Van Dyke is currently married to his second wife, Arlene Silver, who is 46 years his junior. The pair have been married for a decade. Mr. Van Dyke’s first wife, Margie Willett, — who is the mother of all his children — passed away in 1984. Van Dyke and Margie were married for more than 35 years.
