Walt Disney World’s theme Parks are the Resort’s main attraction, but the meticulously-themed Resort pools are a close second.

What’s not to love about a lazy river, a 200-foot water slide, or an ice-cold cocktail? With all that and more, Disney Resort pools like the spectacular Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Beach Club Resort and a Lava Pool at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are irresistible to Guests. Disney enthusiasts typically pencil in pool time during Park-hopping days and dedicate entire Disney vacation itinerary blocks to much-needed pool time.

While Disney works tirelessly to make Disney World pool days magical, some things are entirely out of its control. One of Walt Disney World’s busiest seasons is also a breeding ground for thunderstorms. From June to November, Cast Members must stay alert for inclement weather, especially around the beloved Resort pools.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that pools intermittently close when tropical storms are on the rise and looming Hurricane Bret stirs up winds in the distance. Still, it can put a damper on the highly-anticipated Disney pool time for Guests, and a recent incident with some entitled Guests sparked a plea from a Disney Cast Member.

This Cast Member Is Over It

It’s rare that a Cast Member won’t go above and beyond for Disney Guests—within reason. An extra photo op, a freebie, or an upgrade is pretty standard at the Walt Disney World Resort, but rule-bending about Guests safety crosses the line.

With hurricane season threatening precious pool time, a Cast Member took to Reddit after being “yelled at” for telling Guests the Resort pool area was closed due to the weather. In a post by u/Bkbee, the Cast Member said:

As a recreation cast member (not a lifeguard but pool greeter), I just wanna give my input during the summer storms season. I know it sucks when we close the pool due to lightening in the area. It could be nice and sunny where you are but we do close down the pool when lightening is 6 miles away so we do need everyone to leave the pool deck area. Some days we can open and close back to back and might give you 10 mins to swim, please don’t yell at us.

Expressing further frustrations, the Cast Member continued:

Weather is weather and we have the higher ups determine when we can open again. When we ask to clear the pool deck, we are doing it for safety reasons ( guests have yelled at me/us before and asks for a manager) . Lastly don’t asks us when the pool is gonna open again. It’s weather, we have no idea, we just wait for that call. Could be 10 mins or an hour or more. Hope you enjoy the pools and swim safely.

Disney fans flooded the comments with support for the Cast Member’s plea, including this addition from u/Ok_Calligrapher_8199:

Lightning killed a t ball player under sunny skies. Honestly it’s kinda terrifying to think about how much danger it poses to Central Florida. Disney has the tech to know when there is danger. Glad you’re out there using it. Sorry for the difficult guests!

Every Guest is entitled to a memorable Disney trip, but no one should be rude to the Cast Members—especially for doing their job. Unpredictable weather can certainly rain on your Disney parade. Still, the Resorts have so much to offer with dining services, immaculate theming, and impromptu rainy day activities provided by Cast Members.

If the weather for your Disney trip is looking overcast, don’t take it out on the Cast Members.
