Anika Noni Rose expressed deep disappointment upon hearing the news of the cancellation of the Tiana series. The actress, known for her role as Princess Tiana, emphasized that this series meant a great deal not only to her personally but also to countless fans who had been eagerly awaiting its release. She acknowledged the extensive work put into it by the talented creative team, highlighting individuals like longtime champion Jenn Lee and writer/director Joyce Sherri. Rose praised the skills of animators and the music team involved, underscoring the collective effort and passion that shaped the project before its cancellation.
Initially announced in 2020, the Tiana series aimed to follow the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia on her adventures while maintaining links to her New Orleans past. Fans were thrilled at the prospect of exploring the beloved character’s journey further, shining light on themes of legacy, identity, and community. Spanning several years in development, the series was supposed to connect with Disney’s Tiana's Bayou Adventure ride, enhancing the narrative universe surrounding Princess Tiana.
Despite the initial excitement, the series faced numerous production delays and the premiere was postponed from its scheduled 2023 release to 2024. Unfortunately, silence surrounded the project throughout the year, ultimately leading to the decision to cancel it entirely in March 2025. This turn of events shocked not only the audience but also those intimately involved in the project.

The news of cancellation resonated deeply among fans and sparked significant public reaction. Many expressed their sadness and frustration on various platforms, praising Rose for her role in bringing Tiana to life. In a broader context, the cancellation hit especially hard given Tiana's significant role in Disney’s history as the first African American princess. The character stands as an essential figure in discussions about cultural representation in media, serving as an inspiration for children who see themselves reflected in her story.
Representation in animated films, especially those produced by major studios like Disney, continues to be a pivotal topic in contemporary media discussions. As many fans pointed out, characters like Tiana foster a sense of belonging and hope for diverse audiences that historically have been underrepresented in mainstream animation. The cancellation of the series felt like a setback in this ongoing journey toward inclusivity.
Despite the disappointment surrounding the cancellation, Rose is hopeful about Tiana's future. A short-form special of The Princess and the Frog is in development, which Rose encourages fans to support. She expressed her desire for fans to rally together, to showcase their love and appreciation for Tiana and her adventures. Rose believes that through viewership and enthusiasm, audiences can further demonstrate their need for representation and storytelling that resonates with diverse experiences.

While the Tiana series may not be realized, the journey of Princess Tiana is still very much alive, and the hope for more enchanting stories continues to thrive in the hearts of fans everywhere.

I am still disappointed that her adventures cost a lot of SPLASH MOUNTAIN fans heartache. No disrespect to Tiana, but they could have put her ride in New Orleans square where it fits in based on the storyline.
