With the advent of podcasts, we get to find out more and more about our favorite tv shows. This week making headlines is a Wizards of Waverly Place podcast with hosts Jennifer Stone (Harper) and David DeLuise (Dad Jerry Russo). The hit Disney Channel show that gave us Selena Gomez, had producer Peter Murrieta on this week’s episode and he had a lot to say about Ms. Gomez’s character Alex Russo.

“I wished we could have played more with what was quite obvious to a lot of us; the relationship between Stevie and Alex, but we weren’t able to in that time. It was pretty clear to all of us what that relationship was. That would have been fun.” He continued “We got as close as we could. It was pretty much right there. Disney Channel has had [queer] characters…they did it. At that time, it wasn’t a thing.”

Stevie’s character is played by none other than queer icon, actress, model, dancer, and singer Hayley Kiyoko!

Things is though, Stevie technically got killed off in the show. There are theories and confirmations around the internet that she did not die-die. We can only hope in a future spinoff that Alex ditched Mason because of werewolf drama and decided to explore her sexuality with her former friend turned rival, now turned LOVER.

Let’s be honest here, a beautiful, sassy, mixed ethnicity, clearly very wealthy (business owners and that duplex!!!) Greenwich Village native, Alex Russo, is at the very minimum an LGBTQIA+ ally. We’re just gonna fantasize about a world where Alex and Stevie go The Stone Wall Inn religiously, it’s in walking distance after all. Maybe they host Drag Brunch now on Sunday’s at the Waverly Sub Station where Harper designs costumes. I mean guys, this just makes sense!!
