Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination and creative partner of DreamWorks Animation, gave an exclusive interview about the new Super Mario Bros movie to Variety Magazine. Shockingly the headlines coming out have nothing to do with Mario but with SHREK! Meledandri announced Shrek 5 is in the works.

He shared: β€œIt’s not that dissimilar to the process that we went through with β€˜Mario,’ where you look at what the core elements are that audiences have loved, and you do your very best to honor those core elements and then you’re hard at work to build story elements and new characters that take you to brand new places. The original cast is a huge part of that. We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.”

Eddie Murphy who plays Donkey in the series shared recently: β€œIf [DreamWorks] ever came with another β€˜Shrek,’ I’d do it in two seconds. I love Donkey. They did β€˜Puss in Boots’ movies. I was like, β€˜They should have done a Donkey movie.’ Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots. I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain’t funny as the Donkey.”

People are VERY excited on social media with the announcement.

The first Shrek film came out in 2001.This year a spinoff Puss In Boots film came out with much acclaim to fans and critics.
