Welcome, Foolish Mortals…
We are a little over one year away from Disney’s latest film adaptation of its beloved Theme Park attraction, The Haunted Mansion. To make sure everyone is ready to cross the threshold, Disney Parks shared some more details on what fans can expect to find inside.

To begin with, this movie is going to have a star-studded cast: LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, and Chase Dillon. It will be directed by Justin Simien, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are on as producers, and Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman are executive producers.
Disney+ subscribers would know Dawson from playing Ahsoka Tano in the Star Wars shows The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, and Wilson from Marvel’s series Loki. DeVito previously starred in Disney’s live-action remake of Dumbo.
Then there’s the plot. According to Disney Parks Blog,
In this mysterious adventure, a doctor (Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Dillon), looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for. Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned failed-paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Haddish) and a crotchety historian (DeVito).
This appears to be a bit of a departure from the previous movie attempt starring Eddie Murphy. The 2003 live-action feature focused on a real estate agent who was approached about selling the ghouly estate. Forcing his family to make a detour to visit the potential property, Murphy’s character Jim Evers and his family come face to face with what the property is offering.

With no teaser trailer yet released, only time will tell at this point how much of a comedic turn the movie takes–if any.
Disney’s Haunted Mansion is scheduled for release on May 10, 2023.
Meanwhile, the 2003 version of The Haunted Mansion is available for streaming now on Disney+ and Disney Park Guests can have their own Haunted Mansion adventures at The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and the Disneyland Resort in California.
