The all-new live-action Disney movie inspired by the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disney Parks now has a release date! While one retelling of the Haunted Mansion story has already come to pass as a full-length movie (starring Eddie Murphy in the 2003 version of the film) Disney has previously announced that another Haunted Mansion movie would soon be in the works, with its theatrical release date now confirmed.
According to Deadline, the new Haunted Mansion movie will make its theatrical debut on March 10, 2023. The new version of the film comes 19 years after the original Haunted Mansion film that though nostalgic among some devout fans of the attraction has largely been considered a flop by critics and audiences alike.
Limited details have been revealed thus far about the latest retelling of the Haunted Mansion story, however, we do know the film will feature an all-star cast of actors including Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Danny DeVito, and LaKeith Stanfield.
The film will be directed by Justin Simien, known for his work as a writer and producer on Dear White People (2014), and the screenplay was written by Katie Dippold known as one of the writers behind Parks and Recreation. Filming has been underway in Louisiana since October 2021, and little is known about the plot so far except that the story will revolve around a family that movies into the mansion.
Of course, since the film is inspired by one of the most detailed theme park attractions of all time, there are numerous directions the plot could take. While details are still unknown, fans are certainly expecting some of the most memorable scenes from the ride to be included, like the stretching room and perhaps its portraits, the endless hallway, Madame Leota, the ballroom dancers, and singing busts in the graveyard.
We will keep you updated here on Disney Fanatic as we learn more about the new Haunted Mansion movie, and in the meantime, mark your calendars for its theatrical release on March 10, 2023!
