If you’ve been waiting for Disney to do something a little different with its resort lineup, this might be it.

Disney Lakeshore Lodge is officially on track to open in summer 2027, and while it might not seem like a headline-grabbing announcement at first, this project has the potential to become one of the most interesting additions to Walt Disney World in years.

Not Your Typical Disney Resort

At first glance, you might expect another highly themed hotel packed with characters and bold visuals.

That’s not what this is.

A young deer with white spots stands in a wooded glade, surrounded by five small rabbits and a larger, smiling rabbit. Three blue birds hover in the air above them. Sunlight filters through the trees, creating a warm, enchanting scene.

Lakeshore Lodge is being built around a much quieter idea—nature, and how Disney has brought it to life over the years. Inspiration from films like Bambi (1942), Pocahontas (1995), and Brother Bear (2003) will be present, but not in obvious ways.

Instead, those influences are expected to show up in the details. The kind of details you notice after you’ve been there for a while.

A Prime Spot Along Bay Lake

The setting alone makes this resort worth paying attention to.

Bay Lake is one of the most valuable pieces of real estate at Walt Disney World, and placing a new resort here says a lot about how important this project is.

Guests staying here will likely have easy access to Magic Kingdom while still getting a more peaceful environment than some of the busier resort areas.

That combination is going to be a big selling point.

Room Options for Every Type of Stay

Disney is going big with this one.

With 967 rooms planned, Lakeshore Lodge will offer everything from smaller studios to larger suites. But the standout option is the new Lake Houses.

These one- and two-bedroom units are designed for families who want more space and a more private experience. Being right on the water adds another layer to that, making them one of the most appealing options Disney has introduced in a while.

And like many Bay Lake resorts, fireworks views are expected to be part of the package for select rooms.

Designed to Feel Different

What really separates this resort from others is how it’s meant to feel.

Disney is leaning heavily into natural light, open spaces, and views of the surrounding environment. Floor-to-ceiling windows will play a big role, helping connect the indoors with everything happening outside.

It’s a design choice that encourages guests to slow down, which isn’t always easy to do during a Disney trip.

The Missing Pieces

Even with all of this, there are still a few big questions.

Dining hasn’t been announced yet. Recreation offerings are still unclear. And amenities—something that can make or break a Disney resort—haven’t been detailed.

Those updates will likely come closer to opening, but they’ll be key in determining how this resort stacks up against others.

Why This One Matters

Disney doesn’t build new resorts like this without a reason.

There’s more competition now than ever, especially with Epic Universe drawing attention in Orlando. At the same time, guests are staying longer and expecting more from their hotel experience.

Lakeshore Lodge feels like Disney’s answer to that.

It’s not just about adding capacity—it’s about offering something new.

Looking Ahead

There’s still some time before summer 2027 arrives, but the foundation for this resort is already in place—both literally and conceptually.

If Disney delivers on what it’s promising, this could quickly become one of the most talked-about resorts at Walt Disney World.
