Disney Confirms Upcoming Transformation of Popular EPCOT Pavilion in Massive New Filings

Walt Disney World guests have spent the past year watching the resort evolve at a rapid pace. Construction walls have taken over sections of every park, longtime attractions are disappearing, and entirely new lands are beginning to take shape across the property.

EPCOT has already gone through major changes in recent years, but Disney is clearly not finished yet.

New permits recently filed for the Mexico Pavilion show Disney still has active construction underway in one of the most popular parts of World Showcase. While the filings may not reveal the massive changes some fans continue to hope for, they do confirm that Disney is continuing work on the pavilion.

The Mexico Pavilion Remains a Fan Favorite

The Mexico Pavilion has become one of the most reliable crowd magnets inside EPCOT.

Guests entering World Showcase often stop there early because of the giant pyramid, indoor atmosphere, and mix of dining, shopping, and attractions. Once inside, the pavilion immediately feels immersive thanks to the nighttime setting, glowing lanterns, music, and marketplace atmosphere.

It is also one of the few spots in EPCOT where guests can do several different things without leaving the building. Some visitors stop for margaritas, while others browse merchandise or cool off indoors during the hottest parts of the day.

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros continues to attract guests throughout the day. The ride has built a loyal fan base over the years and remains one of the more relaxing attractions in World Showcase.

That popularity explains why many EPCOT fans have closely followed the ongoing construction outside the pavilion.

Disney Continues Filing New Permits

Construction around the Mexico Pavilion has been active since February 2026. Since then, guests have watched scaffolding and themed scrims slowly spread around sections of the exterior while crews continue working.

Disney recently filed another permit for the ongoing project, along with two additional permits for elevator maintenance work.

At this point, the project appears to be more focused on infrastructure and refurbishment than on major expansion.

The permit language references labor, electrical services, and construction materials tied to the work currently happening around the pavilion.

Of course, Disney fans immediately connect any Mexico Pavilion permit to rumors surrounding a future Coco attraction. Speculation about replacing Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros has circulated for years.

However, the current permits do not appear connected to a major ride overhaul.

Instead, the project looks more like Disney continuing to refresh one of EPCOT’s busiest pavilions while keeping the guest experience mostly intact.

EPCOT Has Avoided Major Construction Chaos

One reason many guests may not even realize how much work is happening at the Mexico Pavilion is that EPCOT still feels relatively stable compared to the other parks.

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros has continued operating normally during the refurbishment, and guests can still enjoy the pavilion’s restaurants, shops, and indoor marketplace.

That creates a much different atmosphere compared to some of the large-scale projects currently impacting other parks.

Magic Kingdom continues major work connected to Villains Land and the future Piston Peak National Park area. Disney’s Hollywood Studios remains busy with demolition work tied to the future Monstropolis expansion, replacing the former Muppets Courtyard area.

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Tropical Americas continues reshaping the park with new Encanto and Indiana Jones experiences replacing DinoLand.

Meanwhile, EPCOT’s updates feel smaller and more manageable.

The park has still seen a few recent changes, though. Refreshment Port near Canada remains temporarily closed, Frozen Ever After recently added new animatronics, and Soarin’ Across America recently debuted for America’s 250th anniversary celebration.

The latest permits may not confirm a dramatic Coco transformation. Still, they do show Disney is continuing to maintain one of EPCOT’s most iconic locations while the rest of Walt Disney World changes around it.
