A normal evening at Universal Studios Florida can include everything from Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts to E.T. Adventure. But guests arriving on select fall nights won’t find anything close to the usual selection.
Instead, Universal cuts its operating ride lineup down to only four attractions.
Eight rides become unavailable, meaning roughly 67% of the park’s regular lineup disappears during those hours. The reductions continue on multiple nights through November 1, so guests visiting this fall should know what they can—and can’t—ride before nighttime arrives.
Eight Rides Drop Off the Nighttime Lineup
The biggest difference comes from the number of attractions Universal removes from operation.
Eight rides that guests can normally experience at Universal Studios Florida become unavailable during the select nighttime hours:
- Despicable Me Minion Mayhem
- Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast
- Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon
- The Simpsons Ride
- Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl
- Trolls Trollercoaster
- E.T. Adventure
- Hogwarts Express
The list covers several different types of experiences. Families lose attractions such as Trolls Trollercoaster and Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, while longtime Universal favorites such as E.T. Adventure also disappear.
With eight rides unavailable, guests are left with a much smaller group of options.
Universal Leaves Four Major Attractions Open
The rides that remain available lean heavily toward some of Universal Studios Florida’s bigger attractions.
Revenge of the Mummy continues operating, as does TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D.
Guests can also head to MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack or visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley for Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
Four attractions still give guests opportunities to ride throughout the night. However, that’s only one-third of the park’s regular 12-ride lineup included here.
The reason for the dramatic reduction comes down to what happens at Universal Studios Florida after regular daytime operations end.
Halloween Horror Nights Changes How Universal Operates
These reduced-ride lineups occur during Halloween Horror Nights.
Once the event begins, Universal Studios Florida no longer operates like it does during a regular park day. Haunted houses, scare zones, themed food, entertainment, and other nighttime offerings become the focus.
That requires Universal to use both employees and park space differently.
Halloween Horror Nights needs employees working haunted houses, scare zones, food locations, entertainment, crowd control, and other event operations.
Space more than likely contributes as well. Areas surrounding attractions can serve different purposes during the event, while some queues and nearby locations become important for haunted-house operations and moving large crowds.
As a result, Universal keeps a smaller collection of rides running while devoting much of the park to Halloween Horror Nights.
Guests Will See the Reduction for Several More Weeks
This isn’t a one-night adjustment, either.
For guests reading on October 12, Halloween Horror Nights takes place tonight. The event then continues across several more groups of dates before ending on November 1.
Halloween Horror Nights returns October 14-18, followed by Premium Scream Night on October 19. Another five-night stretch runs October 21-25 before the final stretch takes place October 28-November 1.
That gives guests plenty of remaining nights when the regular attraction lineup won’t carry into the evening.
Anyone who considers E.T. Adventure, The Simpsons Ride, Hogwarts Express, Trolls Trollercoaster, or the other unavailable attractions a priority should ride them during daytime operating hours.
Another Universal Experience Is Missing This Fall
Guests also have another closure to consider before Halloween Horror Nights even begins.
Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show is currently unavailable as Universal works on a reimagined version of the longtime attraction.
Unlike the eight rides that close during Halloween Horror Nights, this closure isn’t tied to the event.
Universal isn’t permanently eliminating the show, either. The reimagined experience is expected to reopen this winter.
For now, however, guests lose another indoor entertainment option that normally provides a break from rides, crowds, and Florida weather.
Plan the Ride List Before Nightfall
Guests can still find plenty to do at Universal Studios Florida during Halloween Horror Nights, but they shouldn’t expect a traditional night at the park.
Only four rides remain available while eight drop off the schedule, removing approximately 67% of the regular lineup during event hours.
Halloween Horror Nights fills that gap with haunted houses, scare zones, entertainment, food, and other nighttime experiences.
For guests attending primarily for those offerings, the limited ride selection may not matter much. Those who want to experience as many Universal Studios Florida attractions as possible need a different strategy.

Once Halloween Horror Nights begins, Universal Studios Florida becomes much more focused on scares than rides.
