Disney Cruise Line Guests Blindsided by Quiet 17% Price Increase

Guests sailing with Disney Cruise Line are facing another quiet price increase.

The change affects onboard internet access, a service that has become increasingly essential for many travelers. While Disney has continued expanding its cruise business, several recent cost adjustments have incrementally raised the price of sailing.

The latest increase was implemented without advance notice.

According to passenger reports, updated WiFi pricing went into effect earlier this month, adding to a growing list of onboard expenses that have risen over the past year.

Disney Cruise Line Continues Expanding Its Fleet

Disney Cruise Line is in an expansion phase.

The Disney Destiny debuted in November, marking the latest addition to the fleet. The Disney Adventure, originally scheduled to launch in December 2025, is now expected to enter service in March instead.

Reports suggest that four additional ships are already in development.

The expansion is not limited to North America. The Oriental Land Company, operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, has ordered a Wish-class ship set to enter service in 2029. It will be the first Disney cruise ship homeported in Japan.

Discussions are reportedly underway for a second Japan-based vessel.

The move signals long-term confidence in Disney’s cruise segment, which has become an increasingly important part of the company’s broader parks and experiences division.

At the same time, guests have encountered higher costs across multiple areas.

In 2025, Disney Cruise Line raised its recommended gratuities for all sailings. Guests in standard staterooms are now advised to tip $16 per person, per night.

Concierge-level guests face a significantly higher recommended rate.

The suggested gratuity for concierge accommodations now stands at $27.25 per person, per night, increasing the base cost of premium sailings.

Additional charges have also emerged at specific ports.

As of January 1, the State of Hawaii extended its Transient Accommodations Tax to cruise ship passengers. The change applies to time spent docked in the islands.

Guests are now subject to an 11% state tax plus a 3% local county tax.

That combined 14% charge applies to the portion of a cruise fare associated with time in Hawaii, increasing the overall cost of itineraries that include the destination.

Internet Prices Increase Without Advance Notice

WiFi pricing is the latest area to see an increase.

According to Cruise Hive, Disney Cruise Line passengers are reporting higher onboard internet rates as of January 2026. The new prices exceed those offered by several competing cruise lines.

The changes were implemented without prior notice.

As a result, guests who had already booked sailings were unable to purchase internet access in advance at lower rates.

Under the updated pricing, Standard Internet 24-Hour Access now costs $30 per day, up from $26. The Premium Surfing and Streaming plan has increased to $49 per day, previously priced at $42.

Those adjustments represent increases of approximately 15% and 17%, respectively, for a single device.

Disney Cruise Line does not offer multi-device discounts for individuals or families.

Passengers may log in and out to use one plan across multiple devices, but only one device can be connected at a time. For groups traveling together, that limitation often proves impractical.

The increases place Disney’s internet pricing above comparable packages on other cruise lines, particularly for guests seeking streaming access.

The company has not publicly commented on the pricing change.
