Disney Cruise Line made waves late last year when it announced the surprise purchase of a behemoth cruise ship to add to its growing fleet. Since then, the ship has been undergoing construction to change it into another iconic Disney cruise. The ship, originally called the Global Dream, has now been given an official name as it prepares to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2025.

Disney Cruise Line’s Surprise Purchase

In a strategic move to expand its cruise line offerings, Disney Cruise Line announced its acquisition of the partially completed cruise ship Global Dream from Genting Hong Kong in November 2022. The deal, reportedly struck at a price of $41 million, marked a significant step in Disney’s ongoing efforts to bolster its presence in the international cruise market. Originally intended to serve as the flagship vessel for Genting’s Dream Cruises brand, the Global Dream‘s fate took an unexpected turn when Genting Hong Kong filed for bankruptcy in January 2022.

Disney’s plans for the Global Dream garnered considerable attention and anticipation, especially with the revelation that the ship will be homeported in Singapore starting in 2025. This development means establishing a year-round presence in the region and further solidifying Singapore as a hub for cruise travel. While specific itineraries have yet to be confirmed, industry observers speculate that the giant ship may explore destinations in Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.disney cruise castaway club

The Disney Adventure Cruise Ship Officially Unveiled

At the 2023 D23 fan event, Disney Cruise Line made an official announcement, giving the Global Dream a new name to join its fleet. The partially completed cruise ship has now been christened as the Disney Adventure. This revelation aligns the vessel with the storied tradition of Disney’s iconic ships, including the Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Wish, and the upcoming Disney Treasure.

As part of Disney’s transformation of the Disney Adventure, the company is infusing the vessel with its trademark aesthetic, aligning it with its current cruise fleet’s distinctive look and feel. This includes a visually striking design featuring a deep blue hull, complemented by a gold accent line and lifeboats, iconic red funnels, and a pristine white upper deck. While the ship was not originally constructed with Disney in mind, the company truly aims to make it as familiar to guests as any other vessel in the fleet.

While the expected completion date for these enhancements remains set for 2025, Disney has yet to reveal what venues or experiences will be included on the Disney Adventure cruise ship. However, the company recently showed off what is coming with its Disney Treasure ship, which is making its maiden voyage in December next year. The fleet will also get another sister ship to the Disney Wish after the completion of the Disney Adventure.
