It seemed like the perfect plan. Launch your 2024 Presidential Campaign via Twitter, sitting next to its CEO. Show the world that you don’t need the traditional media to get your message out there to the masses. But somewhere between the plan and the execution, things ultimately came off the rails for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Twitter.
The Twitter Spaces hosted by Elon Musk and starring Governor DeSantis kept crashing as more people continued to join. For the first 15 minutes, there were on-and-off disruptions and crashes. More than 600,000 people were listening at one point, but at 6:25, Musk and DeSantis decided to pull the plug and start again. Later posting his announcement to a separate Twitter Space.

And that’s when Disney fans took to Twitter to mock the Florida governor, using the trending phrase “DeSantis’ Failure to Launch.” But Disney fans weren’t the only ones who smelled blood in the water.
Former President Donald Trump and Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley also jumped onto the bandwagon, mocking DeSantis’s inability to launch his campaign. Even President Joe Biden got in on the action, sending a Tweet titled “this link works,” which took people to his campaign fundraising site.
It was a rocky start, to say the least, for the DeSantis 2024 Campaign. This morning, the announcement was somewhat ruined when the Federal Election Commission released DeSantis’ filings for President.
DeSantis has made his ongoing feud with the Walt Disney Company a central piece of his Presidential Campaign. He has accused Disney of promoting “woke” ideology. The Disney Company has since sued the Florida Governor over his removal of its special district and accusing him of violating Disney’s First Amendment rights.

The Disney Company spoke out against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Law, known by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” law. Since then, DeSantis and the Florida legislature replaced the Reedy Creek Improvement District with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. After Disney sued DeSantis, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District and the Governor countersued Disney.
And it is under this cloud that Florida Gov Ron DeSantis is seeking the Presidency of the United States. According to the Real Clear Politics poll tracker, DeSantis is trailing Trump by more than 34 percent for the Republican nomination for the White House. And if today were any indication, that number may continue to grow in the near future.
