April 1st brought one of the strangest and most surprising days EPCOT has seen in a long time—and no, this wasn’t an elaborate April Fools’ Day gag. This was real. The park, known for drawing consistent crowds thanks to its blend of thrilling attractions and global charm, looked almost… empty.

Throughout the day, guests reported walk-on experiences at rides that usually require serious planning—or long waits. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, EPCOT’s crown jewel thrill ride, had a 25-minute standby wait for much of the afternoon. That’s a far cry from the 90+ minutes most guests have come to expect, especially during busy spring break season.
Even more surprising? This wasn’t some early morning fluke or end-of-day lull. The low wait times held steady through peak hours.
Soarin’ Around the World, a longtime EPCOT favorite that usually sits around 45-60 minutes, was down to just 20 minutes. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After, both major family attractions that often push triple-digit waits, hovered around 35-40 minutes. In some cases, they dipped even lower. For many visitors, it felt like stepping into a dream scenario—rides that normally require a strategic Lightning Lane plan or serious patience were practically walk-ons.

The rest of the park reflected the same energy. The Flower & Garden Festival is currently underway, and while it typically draws in big midday and evening crowds for food booths and entertainment, April 1st felt unusually calm. Mobile order windows were wide open. Outdoor kitchens had minimal lines. Even World Showcase, which is often shoulder-to-shoulder during festival season, had plenty of room to breathe.
So… what happened?
There was no major weather event keeping people away. EPCOT didn’t have any major refurbishments or ride closures. And the other parks didn’t seem to be experiencing the same drop. Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom were running at relatively normal crowd levels for this time of year.
Some guests speculated that April 1st simply scared people off. With April Fools’ Day falling on a Monday this year, maybe people assumed there would be wild crowds or surprise events. Others guessed that parkgoers may have chosen other parks assuming EPCOT would be the busiest because of the Flower & Garden Festival.

Whatever the reason, the guests who showed up on April 1st got a rare treat. With wait times lower than some off-season weekdays and a laid-back atmosphere throughout the park, it was one of those magical days you can’t really plan for—you just happen to stumble into it.
Could April 1st become a new “sweet spot” for Disney crowd calendars? It’s possible. While this could have been a one-off fluke, it definitely caught the attention of fans and bloggers who track wait times daily. If nothing else, it’ll be a date many EPCOT fans circle next year—just in case lightning strikes twice.
So if you were lucky enough to spend April 1st wandering through EPCOT with virtually no lines, consider yourself part of a very lucky group. For the rest of us? We’ll be keeping our eyes on those wait times next spring… and maybe planning a little last-minute park day just in case.

I was there, it was wonderful. Monday Hollywood was a walk on. Today same low crowds at Animal Kingdom. We had a great time!
