Mid-Fireworks Show, Disney Park Goes Pitch Black and Kicks Everyone Out

Disneyland Paris Resort recently went dark in the middle of a nighttime fireworks spectacular, sending thousands of guests into confusion before they were ultimately told to leave the park early. The blackout, captured on camera and widely shared on social media, interrupted a performance of the Disney Tales of Magic nighttime spectacular at Disneyland Park.

Disney Tales of Magic, which premiered in January 2025, utilizes projection technology, fireworks, and music to bring moments from Cinderella (1950), Pinocchio (1940), Encanto (2021), and other classic Disney films to life. The popular video, posted by Instagram user @my_castle_club, shows the blackout occurring during the Tangled (2010) sequence, when thousands typically watch illuminated lantern projections float up the castle.

But after a firework bursts overhead, Sleeping Beauty Castle instantly goes dark. Main Street, U.S.A., also loses all lighting, leaving the entire viewing area nearly pitch-black except for a few glowing accessories worn by Disney Park guests. Some onlookers gasp, others laugh nervously, and one person blurts out, “What?!”

A few seconds later, the lights flicker back to life—but the moment had already sparked chaos both in the park and online. The clip quickly drew thousands of views and comments.

A Wider Power Outage?

Several commenters who live near Marne-la-Vallée (the town Disneyland Paris Resort is in) reported experiencing their own power outages around the same time.

“It was all the area!” one user wrote. “It went down in my house too.”

“The same thing happened at my house,” said another. “It happened throughout the Val d’Europe area.”

Guests Ordered to Leave After Technical Breakdown

While the Instagram video doesn’t show what happened afterward, people who claim to have witnessed the full incident commented with firsthand accounts. One Disney Park guest, @natalieeforsyth, said that although the power returned, the show couldn’t continue as usual:

“The power did come back on pretty quickly and the music kept playing but the projections were non-existent and the fireworks completely stopped so in the end they just cut the music and said ‘due to unforeseen circumstances this will conclude the fireworks show this evening. The park is now closed.’ And kicked us out 😂.”

According to their recollection, the technical issues weren’t limited to the blackout. Even before the show began, the park warned that the performance would be altered.

“It was weird though because before the show started they said ‘due to unforeseen circumstances we will be playing an adapted version,’” the guest wrote. That message often indicates underlying technical trouble or safety concerns.

It’s unknown whether the adapted version and the later blackout were related, but Disney usually modifies nighttime spectaculars due to weather or malfunctioning equipment.

Disneyland Paris Resort has not issued a public statement regarding the blackout or the abrupt closure of Disneyland Park that night. Disney Tales of Magic continues to run on most evenings; however, the resort recommends checking the official website or mobile app for the latest showtimes and cancellations.
