The Disney Parks Blog has shared that Disney has just launched its 10th Annual Magic of Storytelling campaign with First Book, which is “a nonprofit organization that puts free or affordable books and resources into the hands of educators who serve children in need”! Between now and March 31, special Magic of Storytelling events will be occurring alongside the campaign’s charitable efforts.
Events will include storytimes led by “fan-favorite Disney actors”, as well as advice on storytelling from “beloved Disney creators”. One featured author will be Julie C. Dao, who has written several Disney fairy tale books such as “Broken Wish” and “Forest of a Thousand Lanterns” (which is a retelling about the Evil Queen). Another featured author will be Jennifer Calonita, who wrote “Go the Distance: A Twisted Tale” about Hercules and Megara.
In the blog post, First Book is described as a nonprofit that is “focused on creating systemic change and identifying and breaking down barriers in education to ensure educational equity for millions of children living in poverty across the U.S.”. Disney Publishing Worldwide has actually donated millions of books to First Book for twenty years, and there is now a shopDisney “Buy a Book, Give a Book” campaign that will also support First Book!
During the Buy a Book, Give a Book campaign, every book purchased on shopDisney.com now through December 31 2022 will lead to Disney donating another book to First Book. According to the blog post, “shopDisney Guests may discover a wide variety of Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and National Geographic books on the site”. Now you can shop on the online Disney store shopDisney and donate to charity — while also helping some children possibly discover a lifelong love of literature through a soon-to-be favorite book or a love of fairy tale retellings after receiving a brand new book!
