Disney Guests Shocked to See Bed Bug Detectors on the Job

Even in the world of Disney, where magic and wonder are part of the daily experience, the reality of everyday issues can sometimes make an appearance. Disneyland, despite being dubbed β€œThe Happiest Place on Earth,” is still a hotel and theme park where real-world challenges sometimes come into play.

The recent discovery of bed bug detectors at a Deluxe Disney hotel is one example of such an issue, reminding guests that while they’re in a magical place, maintaining cleanliness and comfort is always a top priority.

Bed bugs are tiny parasitic insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. While they are not often seen, their presence can certainly be felt. They can easily hitch a ride into hotel rooms through guests’ luggage, and although it’s nearly impossible to completely prevent them, Disneyland takes proactive measures to ensure they don’t become a problem.

One of the ways the resort combats this pest issue is through the use of specially trained dogs. Bed bug-sniffing dogs are trained to detect the unique scent of bed bugs, making it easier for hotel staff to identify potential infestations before they spread.

These dogs have proven to be highly effective in preventing the spread of bed bugs, and they serve as an additional layer of protection for Disney’s high-end accommodations.

The efforts to keep these bugs at bay typically happen behind the scenes, but occasionally, guests spot the dogs in action, and when they do, it makes for a cute and memorable moment. Recently, one guest spotted a beagle employed at the Disneyland Hotel, and the tweet about the encounter quickly went viral.

The guest, Matt Desmond (@DisneyScoopGuy), shared the moment with his followers on X (formerly Twitter), saying:

The Disneyland Hotel uses beagles to keep the hotel free of bed bugs and I finally spotted one today!

This tweet, which garnered over 2,300 likes, brought attention to the team of dogs working to keep the hotel bug-free. The tweet added a charming element to the often-ignored work of pest control, highlighting Disney’s commitment to both cleanliness and guest satisfaction.

While bed bugs are a concern that can’t always be fully avoided, Disney’s proactive approach with their canine team is a great way to stay on top of any potential issues. These dogs, along with the hotel’s pest control measures, ensure that guests are protected from unwanted pests during their stay.

If you’re staying at a Disney hotel, or any hotel for that matter, there are steps you can take to help ensure your room is bed-bug-free.

You can start by keeping your suitcase in the bathroom or away from the bed until you’ve had a chance to inspect the room. Check along the seams of the mattress and box spring, look for any blood spots, and inspect the headboard and surrounding areas.

Should you find any signs of bed bugs, it’s essential to report it immediately to the hotel staff so they can move you to another room and address the issue.

While the sight of a beagle working on the job might raise some eyebrows, it’s a reminder that Disney is taking the necessary steps to ensure a safe and comfortable stay for all of its guests. The presence of bed bug detectors is a simple yet effective way to maintain the high standards of cleanliness that Disney is known for.
