Disney Guests Trapped on Broken Attraction Past Park Closing

It has to be a fear that all Disney Park Guests probably have in the back of their minds whenever they close out a Theme Park. Like, skiers hoping on a chair lift with only minutes to spare for one last run (which has been turned into at least one horror movie), you have to wonder what are the chances that the operators forget about you and the ride either shuts down or breaks down with you still on it as the rest of the Park closes around you.

Well, it turns out that several Guests were trapped on one particular ride for hours and were not rescued until long after the Theme Park closed its doors for the night.

A video shared to TikTok by @myleswmedeiros shared a first-hand account of being stuck on “it’s a small world” at Disneyland for over an hour, unable to get off until close to 1:00 a.m. What might be worse for some fans is that the malfunction appears to have only been regarding the boats’ movement, and the music stopped but animatronics continued to move throughout the event. The only sounds heard were the splashing of the water and the squeaking of the animatronics’ gears.

First opening at the 1964 World’s Fair for Unicef, Walt Disney’s “it’s a small world,” was intended to be a celebration of all of the children of the world with a catchy song from Robert and Richard Sherman. While every castle Park around the world besides Shanghai Disneyland features some version, the original is still in operation at the Disneyland Resort, and today features dolls of different Disney and Pixar classics in their appropriate nation or region. For example, Lilo and Stitch can be found in the Polynesian area, and Cinderella can be seen in France.

But the combination of the dolls and overall design–brought to life by Mary Blair and Rolly Crump–and the song is seen by many to produce a nightmarish experience for its normal run time, let alone for an unanticipated hour of immersion.

Regardless, though, the boasts did end up moving again, and nobody appears to have been harmed during this incident.
