Disney Just Made Visiting Toy Story Land Way More Comfortable

It only took Disney seven years to figure out that people occasionally need to sit down, but better late than never, I guess. Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios just got a new outdoor seating area near Woody's Lunch Box, and it's honestly embarrassing that this is even newsworthy because adequate seating should have been part of the original design when the land opened back in 2018.

Where This New Seating Actually Is

The new seating area is located just outside Woody's Lunch Box, near the pathway connecting Toy Story Land to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. It's positioned across from the Alien Swirling Saucers entrance, so if you're walking through that section of the park, you can't really miss it.

There are tables and chairs, and here's the kicker, there's actually some shade coverage too. This is huge because Toy Story Land has basically zero shade anywhere in the entire land. The theming of Andy's backyard apparently doesn't include a single tree or any substantial shade structures, so you're just baking in direct Florida sun the entire time you're there.

Why Everyone's Been Complaining About This for Years at Disney

If you've ever visited Toy Story Land on a crowded day or really any day during Florida summer, you know exactly why the lack of seating has been such a massive problem. Woody's Lunch Box serves popular menu items like Totchos that people actually want to eat, but the interior seating fills up almost immediately during busy periods.

Once you finally get your food after waiting in line, you discover there's nowhere to sit. Your options were sitting on the edges of planters, finding spots on curbs, standing while trying to eat your lunch, or walking to completely different areas of the park to find available seating. None of those solutions are acceptable when you've just paid premium prices for food at a Disney park.

For families with young children this was an even bigger nightmare. Kids get tired and need frequent breaks. They need places to sit down and rest. Having basically no seating options in a land that specifically targets families with young children is such an obvious design failure that it's wild Disney didn't address this immediately.

The Shade Situation Is Still Terrible

While the new seating area includes some shade coverage, which is definitely an improvement, Toy Story Land as a whole is still a sun-baked wasteland with almost no protection from Florida's brutal heat. Queue lines for Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers expose you to direct sun for extended periods while you wait.

During summer months or even just typical sunny Florida days, spending extended time in Toy Story Land can be genuinely uncomfortable or even dangerous from a heat exposure standpoint. Disney needs to add way more shade structures throughout the entire land, but at least this new seating area provides some relief.

This Isn't Even a Big Seating Area

Let's be clear about what we're actually getting here. This new seating area isn't massive. It's not going to solve all the capacity issues during peak attendance when Toy Story Land is absolutely slammed with crowds. It's just a small outdoor space with some tables and chairs.

But even a small seating area is better than the absolute nothing that existed before. Any additional seating represents an improvement over the previous situation where your only options involved finding creative places to sit that weren't actually designed for sitting.

Why This Took Disney So Long

The real question is why it took Disney seven years to add basic seating to Toy Story Land when this has been a consistent guest complaint since day one. When the land opened in 2018, Disney was so focused on creating impressive theming and installing popular attractions like Slinky Dog Dash that they apparently forgot human beings need places to sit down occasionally.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opened shortly after Toy Story Land and includes way more seating, both inside Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo and throughout the land in various locations. The contrast between the two areas makes it evident that Disney knew how to design adequate seating; they just didn't bother doing it for Toy Story Land initially.

What This Means for Your Disney Visit

If you're planning to visit Hollywood Studios and spend time in Toy Story Land, knowing about this seating area helps with your planning. When you order from Woody's Lunch Box and find all the interior seats taken, you now have a designated outdoor option instead of scrambling to find anywhere to sit.

The location near the Galaxy's Edge pathway also makes it convenient if you're moving between the two lands and just need a quick break to rest your legs before continuing.

Is this new seating area going to revolutionize your Toy Story Land experience? No. But it addresses a basic guest need that Disney should have accommodated from the beginning, so at least that's something.
