New Construction Projects Confirm Expansion of Galaxy’s Edge

It seems the story of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is far from finished. Six years after its grand opening, the land is undergoing not one but two major projects, giving fans plenty to speculate about as Disney continues shaping one of its most immersive spaces.

Two Expansions, One Land

The first of these projects began earlier this summer near the Toy Story Land entrance. Crews cleared land in a section that many guests believe could be set aside for future development. While progress there has been slower and updates limited, the second project has come as a more immediate surprise.

At Black Spire Outpost, fresh construction walls have gone up around the courtyard outside Savi’s Workshop. For years, this has been the spot where guests lined up to craft custom lightsabers—a premium experience known for its emotional storytelling. Now, the space is fenced off, the speeder bike display has been removed, and paving work is ongoing.

Savi’s Workshop hasn’t closed, but it’s noticeably quieter. With reservations wide open, some are wondering if Disney is preparing to add new customization features, or if the company is simply upgrading the area to improve operations and guest flow.

Why This Matters

When Galaxy’s Edge opened in 2019, it marked a turning point for themed entertainment. With headliners like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance, the land immediately drew massive crowds. But Disney has never been content to let its most ambitious projects stay static for long.

These two new projects could point to a variety of changes: perhaps a refreshed lightsaber experience, enhanced pathways for better traffic management, or even entirely new interactive additions. Fans have learned to expect surprises, especially in a land built on storytelling and detail.

Galaxy’s Edge Still Delivers

Even with construction underway, Galaxy’s Edge continues to offer some of the most unique experiences at Walt Disney World. Guests can still:

  • Take control of the Millennium Falcon.

  • Join the Resistance against the First Order.

  • Enjoy themed drinks at Oga’s Cantina.

  • Sample exclusive food like the Ronto Wrap and iconic Blue and Green Milk.

Looking Toward the Future

Disney hasn’t made any official announcements yet, but the writing is on the wall—literally. Two construction sites signal that the company remains committed to keeping Galaxy’s Edge fresh, relevant, and exciting. Whether the changes are big or small, the expansion confirms what fans already know: this corner of Hollywood Studios is only getting bigger, and the story of Batuu is far from complete.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
