According to a local news station, there is a very special event coming soon for Seattle residents (and Disney fans who can get themselves to Seattle, Washington)!
The Seattle Men’s Chorus has started rehearsals for a truly spectacular “Disney PRIDE In Concert” event. Audience members can enjoy more than 40 classic Disney songs from movies like The Little Mermaid (1989), as well as newer hits from films like Coco (2017).
More than 25 instruments will be played in a massive and well-rounded orchestra, and the chorus features at least 200 men singing their hearts out.
According to the announcement, “the Seattle Men’s Chorus has been performing for 50 years as one of the first gay choruses in the country. It will be the company’s first full-length choral concert and one of the first pieces of work specifically for the LGBTQ+ community .”
LGBTQ+ rights have been on many Disney fans’ minds as of late, not just because a Marvel leader allegedly lost her job with Marvel Studios after refusing to hide an LGBTQ symbol in a new Marvel film, but also because Disney has included more and more same-sex relationships in its new films even if they have performed poorly at the box office.
In addition, the Walt Disney Company (specifically Walt Disney World Resort) and Governor Ron DeSantis have been engaging in a surprisingly-hostile “feud” for months now, and Disneyland recently announced its first-ever Pride Nite ‘coincidentally‘ right after controversial Florida leader Governor Ron DeSantis made some more scathing remarks about Disney.
The Seattle Gay Men’s Chorus has previously performed some iconic Disney songs on stage already, such as this fabulous rendition of “Let It Go” from the 2013 Frozen film (shown below).
The Disney PRIDE In Concert event is taking place on June 9 and 10 2023 at the Paramount Theatre! Will you be there to see the Seattle Men’s Chorus performing these songs in all their glory?
