Disney Princess Makeover Leaves Fans Divided After Ballgowns Scrapped

Disneyland Paris is preparing for one of the largest transformations in its history.

Later this month, Walt Disney Studios Park will officially become Disney Adventure World. The rebrand arrives with new attractions, entertainment, and dining locations as part of a wider expansion across the resort.

One addition has already begun generating discussion among Disney fans.

Disney recently revealed redesigned outfits for several of its princess characters. The costumes will debut inside a new restaurant opening with the park’s relaunch on March 29, 2026.

The change marks a noticeable shift from how Disney princesses usually appear inside the parks.

Across Disney resorts worldwide, princess encounters are designed around familiarity.

Guests visiting locations such as Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, and Tokyo Disney Resort regularly meet characters like Cinderella, Belle, and Rapunzel in carefully maintained versions of their film costumes.

Those appearances rarely change.

Belle typically wears the golden gown from Beauty and the Beast, while Cinderella is commonly seen in her blue dress. The approach ensures that the characters look the same whether guests meet them in California, Florida, Japan, or Paris.

The new experience at Disneyland Paris will take a slightly different direction.

New Restaurant Introduces Different Princess Costumes

The redesigned costumes will appear at The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge, a new character dining location opening as part of Disney Adventure World.

The restaurant overlooks Adventure Bay, a central lake that will serve as the setting for a new nighttime spectacular planned for the park.

Several Disney princesses will appear during the dining experience.

The lineup includes Belle, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine, Merida, and Mulan.

However, instead of the traditional ball gowns usually associated with the characters, Disney has introduced alternate costumes inspired by different moments in their stories.

Early images show designs that resemble the characters’ everyday or adventure clothing rather than royal attire.

The outfits will be exclusive to the restaurant.

Disney has described the venue as an upscale princess dining experience overlooking the lake.

Dine with Disney Princesses in their favourite summer residence and enjoy a royal Disney experience like nothing before,” says Disney. “Share tales of adventures with the likes of Belle, Aurora and Ariel, in an elegant setting with stunning views of the lake.”

The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge also introduces another change for the resort.

It will become the first in-park bar at Disneyland Paris, allowing visitors to stop in for a drink without booking a full dining reservation.

Alcohol has been available in some park restaurants before, although options have historically been limited.

Fans Debate the Change Online

Images of the new princess outfits began circulating online shortly after Disney revealed them.

Some fans welcomed the change, saying the alternate looks offer something different from the traditional princess dining format.

One commenter wrote that the alternate looks better matches the storytelling of Disney Adventure World, arguing that “their villager outfits are more iconic than their ballgowns (especially Belle's blue dress).”

Another fan pointed out that classic gowns remain widely used across Disney parks.

They appear in their dresses in the main park all the time,” the commenter said. “I think it's good they are in different outfits to make their appearance slightly more special in the new area.”

Some responses also focused on practicality.

Walking between tables in those massive ballgowns must be so annoying,” one fan wrote. “These outfits are so much more convenient.”

Other comments highlighted specific costume choices.

My favourite princess is Mulan and I love that they have her in her end of movie outfit where she saves China,” the fan wrote, adding that it offers a welcome change from the pink or green outfits typically used on merchandise.

Another commenter expressed simple enthusiasm for the change.

The costumes are gorgeous. No one [needs] the same dress at every princess dining,” they wrote.

Not all reactions were positive.

Several fans questioned whether the new outfits fit the tone of the restaurant’s theme.

Then they should adjust their menu and prices,” one commenter wrote. “Because there is nothing informal about both.”

The same commenter added that the costumes might work better in a different setting.

Love the outfits, better suited for roaming in the parks or Auberge, which translates to an Inn. Not a restaurant named the REGAL view,” they wrote.

Some guests said they expected the princesses to appear in traditional ball gowns.

I had booked the Regal View but really wanted to see the princesses in their ball gowns rather than day time dress,” one guest wrote.

Another added: “I've booked this for October bit disappointed as I like the ball gowns and tiaras.”

A few commenters also criticized the costumes themselves.

Why the official Disney park cast have clothes that looks worse than cosplayers?” one commenter asked. “The wigs looks so fake and the fabrics so cheap.”

The new restaurant will open alongside the launch of Disney Adventure World on March 29.

The park’s wider transformation includes the debut of World of Frozen (complete with Frozen Ever After), the Adventure Way promenade, and Adventure Bay, which will host a new nighttime spectacular in the future.
