There’s something timeless about the PeopleMover in Tomorrowland. It doesn’t dazzle with speed or drops, but instead offers a steady glide through the heart of Magic Kingdom. For many guests, it’s the perfect way to rest tired feet while catching sneak peeks of the attractions below. And for years, one of its most memorable highlights has been its connection to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.

That moment, however, has vanished.
What Changed on PeopleMover
In August 2025, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closed for a full refurbishment, its first major update in years. Disney is giving the attraction new life with upgraded blasters, interactive targets, refreshed ride vehicles, and the addition of Buddy, a Pixar-designed robot sidekick who will help guests on their mission.

While that’s great news for the future of the ride, the closure has left PeopleMover without one of its signature experiences. Normally, the narration points out Star Command headquarters, encouraging guests to look down at riders zapping away at Emperor Zurg. Now, as PeopleMover glides past the construction zone, the narration has been stripped. Guests are met with silence instead.
Why Fans Are Noticing the Absence
It may sound like a small detail, but PeopleMover regulars know the script by heart. The sudden quiet is jarring, breaking the familiar rhythm of the ride. Instead of playful commentary, there’s an awkward pause as the cars move past a darkened, covered attraction.

Disney has altered PeopleMover’s narration before during refurbishments, but usually with creative tweaks—sometimes even teasing what was to come. This time, Imagineers left nothing in its place, which makes the change feel more noticeable.
Tomorrowland in Transition
The silence also underscores a bigger truth: Tomorrowland itself is shifting again. Alongside Buzz Lightyear’s overhaul, Carousel of Progress is receiving a new introduction featuring an Audio-Animatronic of Walt Disney. These updates reflect Disney’s continued effort to reinvent Tomorrowland, a land that has always been defined by reinvention.
What Comes Next
Once Buzz Lightyear reopens, it’s expected that narration will return to PeopleMover. With Buddy being introduced as a new character, there’s a strong chance the script will be updated to spotlight him. For now, though, the absence serves as both a reminder and a preview—Tomorrowland is evolving, and even the PeopleMover has to roll with the changes.

For fans, it’s bittersweet. The ride is still a peaceful tour above Tomorrowland, but the missing Buzz Lightyear callout proves that even the smallest details at Disney World can leave a lasting impression when they’re gone.
