On June 5, 2025, a rare evacuation occurred at Walt Disney World Resort. The Haunted Mansion ride at Magic Kingdom Park was shut down, leaving many guests trapped on board, awaiting rescue. One Disney Park guest was thrilled to evacuate the fan-favorite ride and shared their experience on social media.
The Haunted Mansion has long been one of the most iconic attractions at Walt Disney World Resort. It first opened in 1971, two years after Disneyland Park’s version, and has since become a staple of Disney parks around the world. Over the years, the ride has captivated millions with its not-so-spooky atmosphere, memorable characters, and eerie charm. But as with any theme park attraction operating for over five decades, occasional interruptions are inevitable.
TikTok user @the.lingerers was first alerted to the shutdown when they found themselves stuck in their Doom Buggy near the ballroom scene. The lights were still off, and the ride had suddenly stopped. The Disney Park guest captured the moment on video, expressing excitement as cast members announced that the ride would be “powered down.”

“What?! Are we getting walked off of The Haunted Mansion? No!” they exclaimed.
The experience, which the guest described as “almost a once in a lifetime event,” allowed riders to walk through several parts of the Haunted Mansion with the lights on. Disney cast members walked guests through the attraction, giving specific instructions on where to step to avoid hazards. The evacuees got an exclusive look at several rooms, including the Madame Leota scene, the library, the hallway, and even the home of the new Hatbox Ghost animatronic. They also got a rare peek at a maintenance area usually hidden by the ride’s dark atmosphere.
“This is better than finishing the ride,” the TikTok user said. “This is awesome.”
Unsurprisingly, Disney Parks fans were envious of the rare experience.
“The amount of people that would be mad about this, when I would be feeling like I just hit the freaking lottery,” commented one TikTok user, @solsticeandsun.
“They’d never find me again,” @poppunkpilates replied.
Despite the rare interruption, Walt Disney World Resort didn’t release a public statement on the cause of the shutdown, but the attraction was back up and running soon after last week’s incident.

It’s one of the best experiences at Disney. Several years ago we were walked off Big Thunder….what a thrill to see the underground workings.
Someone totally dispersed some ashes 😂
One time I was stuck on Frozen after about 10 minutes of Elsa singing, they drained water & walked us off, great experience. Same day, stuck on Haunted Mansion backwards in doom buggy but only a bout 5 minutes then continued on, fun day
