Disney World Gondola System Fails, Hundreds Flee

Guests at Walt Disney World Resort experienced an unexpected disruption this weekend when the Disney Skyliner gondola system suddenly stopped operating, prompting an emergency evacuation.

The Disney Skyliner connects Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT International Gateway, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Pop Century Resort.

Redditor u/thatonehispanicgirl shared their experience of the incident, which began with a blaring fire alarm. The Skyliner gondolas, suspended approximately 60 feet in the air, stopped moving, leaving guests stranded and unsure of what was happening.

“We just got escorted off and are standing at Caribbean Beach,” the Disney Park guest wrote. “We know it’s a fire alarm, but wondered if it was a false alarm or something more serious.”

Another Disney Park guest, Redditor u/jcwilsonmd, was at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the time of the incident and shared their perspective: “We were about to get on at Hollywood studios and were told nope. There was an issue or incident at another location. There was a little tension with the safety guy telling everyone to hurry up.”

The Disney Skyliner remained out of operation for an extended period, with no official updates from Disney cast members. Redditor u/jcwilsonmd later added, “Everyone is tight-lipped,” expressing frustration at the lack of information as the gondola system remained stationary.

Walt Disney World Resort rarely shares details about operational interruptions, including incidents involving the Disney Skyliner. Guests are typically informed about closures or delays only at the station or resort level.

The cause of the fire alarm and the resulting evacuation remains unclear, and Walt Disney World Resort has not released an official statement about the incident.
