Disney Sparks Outrage After Cutting Marvel Heroes Ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel took over Shanghai, China, with a massive promotional display for Avengers: Doomsday. Instead of pure excitement, the event delivered a wave of confusion. The breathtaking projections wowed the crowd, but fans quickly noticed the absence of several key hero groups.

The silence around those missing names has sparked fierce debate. Was this a deliberate move to build suspense, or is Marvel signaling a serious shake-up in its cinematic universe? Either way, the discussion is dominating the fandom.

Why Doomsday Is Different

From the moment it was announced, Avengers: Doomsday was described as Marvel’s most ambitious movie yet. The film is expected to surpass Endgame (2019) in scope, with a multiverse-spanning narrative that ties together threads from more than a decade of storytelling.

So far, one of the most buzzworthy details is Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback — not as Tony Stark, but as Victor Von Doom. It’s a clever twist: the actor who started the MCU now returns as one of its most dangerous villains.

Promo Raises Red Flags

The Shanghai lightshow wasn’t a traditional trailer. Instead, it was an artistic preview meant to set the tone. But fans walked away with more questions than answers. The absence of so many recognizable groups was impossible to ignore for a film hyped as the largest ensemble in MCU history.

With filming still underway, Marvel has plenty of time to shift gears. However, the Shanghai event clarified one thing: not every hero will have a place in the spotlight.

Guardians and Marvels Absent

The Guardians’ trilogy concluded, and most of the cast have indicated their time in the MCU is over. Their absence in the promo could mean their cosmic storylines are being wrapped up elsewhere. Similarly, after a rocky box office run, the Marvels were also missing, leaving fans to wonder if Marvel is quietly sidelining the trio.

Young Heroes Left Behind

The MCU invested heavily in its younger lineup, but America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), Ironheart (Dominque Thorne), and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) were nowhere to be found. Marvel may be saving them for a new phase, but the Young Avengers appear to be on pause for now.

Strange Omissions

Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Shang-Chi’s (Simu Liu) exclusions were especially puzzling. Strange has been pivotal to the Multiverse saga, and Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings seemed like a key plot device. Meanwhile, Wanda Maximoff’s (Elizabeth Olsen) absence is either a setup for a dramatic comeback or a quiet farewell.

Other No-Shows

The Eternals’ future looks dim after their polarizing debut, while Spider-Man’s (Tom Holland) complicated rights with Sony keep his participation uncertain. The Thunderbolts didn’t appear in the promo either, but their confirmed role means their omission is more a matter of timing.

What It All Means

The Shanghai display was stunning, but it emphasized how uncertain Marvel’s direction is. With fan-favorites absent and only hints of what’s to come, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up as the MCU’s biggest gamble and opportunity.

The road ahead isn’t straightforward — but maybe that’s the point.
