During Super Bowl LVIII, Marvel Studios announced through Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool/Wade Wilson) and his “frenemy” Hugh Jackman (Wolverine/Logan) that the long-awaited third installment in the Deadpool series will be titled Deadpool & Wolverine.
With Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man/Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Captain America/Steve Rogers stepping down, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has entered a new phase known as the Multiverse Saga.
Despite concerns about “superhero fatigue” and the departure of Jonathan Majors, who previously portrayed Kang the Conqueror, Marvel Studios is poised to redefine the Marvel movie landscape once again with this new Deadpool entry.
With Majors leaving the studio and Marvel President Kevin Feige considering a shift from the Multiverse Saga to a new “Mutant Saga” featuring X-Men characters, Avengers 5, now titled Avengers: Doomsday (formerly Avengers: The Kang Dynasty), is being developed as a lead-in to Avengers 6, also known as Avengers: Secret Wars.
All of this was in part due to the work of one individual over at Marvel Studios, who worked on the fan-favorite Loki Marvel Television series at Disney+ (Disney Plus), and many other Marvel films over the years.
Marvel Says Goodbye — And Thank You
Directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed Deadpool 2 (2018), this new Deadpool & Wolverine film is set to integrate its heroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (currently in its Multiverse Saga phase) following The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, now 20th Century Studios.
With Deadpool & Wolverine now in theaters receiving a positive audience response after its meteoric box office last weekend, the time has come for Marvel Studios to honor one of their own legends, as Deadpool & Wolverine honors the legends of superhero franchises past.

Recently, Marvel released a touching tribute to Raymond Chan, AKA Ray Chan, Deadpool & Wolverine‘s late production designer (and MCU mainstay), and who the new Deadpool film was dedicated to.
The Marvel star in his own right unfortunately died of a sudden stroke at the age of 56 in April this year, and was unable to see the film he had worked on debuting on the big screen.
The Marvel legend Chan began his career with the superhero studio as the supervising art director on Thor: The Dark World (2013). He continued in this role for Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Doctor Strange (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
The following video, titled “Thank You, Ray Chan”, was posted to Marvel Studios’ YouTube page, and features Marvel President Kevin Feige, along with director Shawn Levy of Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as its leads, Reynolds and Jackman, as they send Chan off with a final, heartwarming tribute:
Inside the Magic would like to express condolences to the family and friends of Ray Chan.
