Disney Reveals Plans To Take Toy Story Land Attraction Out of Operation

Another Disney attraction is preparing to close next month.

Disney has brought Toy Story to life at several of its theme parks, with dedicated lands at Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Shanghai Disneyland. Each features attractions inspired by Andy's toys, although the ride lineups vary between resorts.

At Disney's Hollywood Studios, Toy Story Land opened in 2018 with Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers joining the existing Toy Story Mania! Earlier that year, another Disney park opened its own version, featuring a considerably more intense roller coaster.

Now, eight years later, that coaster is set to temporarily shut down.

Disney Confirms Toy Story Land Ride Closure

Rex's Racer at Shanghai Disneyland will close on November 28, 2026, according to the resort's official operating calendar.

The attraction will remain unavailable through December 5, with operations expected to resume on December 6. The eight-day closure is for refurbishment, and Disney has not announced any major changes to the ride.

Rex's Racer has operated since April 26, 2018, when Shanghai Disneyland opened Disney·Pixar Toy Story Land as its first major expansion. The area also features Woody's Roundup and Slinky Dog Spin, neither of which is currently scheduled to close during the same period.

Inspired by RC, Andy's remote-controlled car from Toy Story (1995), the attraction sends guests hurtling backward and forward along a towering orange half-pipe track. The coaster's theming also features Rex and Trixie, the two dinosaur characters from the Pixar franchise.

Manufactured by Intamin, Rex's Racer stands approximately 91 feet tall and reaches speeds of 47 mph. Its vehicle accommodates 20 passengers across five rows, and guests must be at least 120 centimeters (47 inches) tall to ride.

The attraction has nearly identical counterparts at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, where it operates as RC Racer. The original opened in Paris in 2010, followed by Hong Kong's version in 2011.

Guests visiting Shanghai Disneyland during the refurbishment can still experience other roller coasters, including TRON Lightcycle Power Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, subject to their operating schedules.

More Changes Coming to Shanghai Disneyland

Rex's Racer is closing temporarily as Shanghai Disneyland continues work on several expansion projects.

The park is currently constructing its ninth themed land, dedicated to Spider-Man. The new area will feature a high-speed roller coaster, with Disney completing the attraction's track installation in June 2026. An official opening date has yet to be announced.

Disney is also expanding Soaring Over the Horizon, the popular flight simulator in Adventure Isle, with plans to increase its capacity by approximately 50%.

Meanwhile, Shanghai Disney Resort is preparing to open its third hotel. The 400-room Shanghai Disney Enchanted Star Hotel will welcome its first guests on December 16, 2026, with bookings opening November 6. A fourth resort hotel is also in development.

For now, Rex's Racer remains scheduled to reopen on December 6. Guests planning to visit Shanghai Disneyland in late November or early December should check the resort's calendar for any further changes.
