The Star Wars franchise continues to push forward with a growing slate of upcoming projects, including Ahsoka Season 2 and the newly announced Star Wars: Visions Presents, both expected to expand the franchise’s streaming future in 2026 and beyond.

Star Wars: Starfighter
Alongside these Disney+ developments, Lucasfilm is also preparing its next major theatrical release, with Star Wars: Starfighter (2027) now emerging as the studio’s most closely watched cinematic project.
The film will be the franchise's next theatrical release following this year's The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026), which failed to ignite the level of enthusiasm typically associated with the saga. Despite bringing back two of Star Wars‘ most recognizable characters, the film struggled both critically and commercially, drawing a muted response from audiences and reinforcing concerns about Star Wars’ recent theatrical direction.
Directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine), Starfighter is described as a standalone adventure set five years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). The film was first unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Japan, where an early teaser was shown to attendees.

Now, early footage from Starfighter was reportedly showcased at CineEurope, according to Deadline, although no official details have been released regarding what was included.
A wider public reveal is now expected later this year at Disney’s D23 event in Anaheim, California (August 14–16), where a first full trailer could debut.

Other Disney presentations at CineEurope included Avengers: Doomsday (2026), Ice Age: Boiling Point, Moana, and Whalefall, alongside updates on the company’s new “Infinity Vision” large-format cinema initiative.
Star Wars: Starfighter lands in theaters on May 28th, 2027, which includes IMAX screenings.
According to StarWars.com, the film is “an entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored” within the franchise. It will star Ryan Gosling alongside Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
