If you’re planning a Walt Disney World trip in April, you might think you’re catching a calm window between spring break and summer crowds. But this year, that assumption doesn’t fully hold up.

April is quietly packed with changes—and while none of them feel overwhelming on their own, they start to add up fast.
The month begins with Easter, which falls on April 5. That alone is enough to bring in higher crowds across all four parks. Magic Kingdom, in particular, tends to feel the impact the most. Still, there’s a trade-off. Along with the crowds come unique experiences like the once-a-year Easter parade and rare character appearances that you won’t find at any other point in the year.
Just a few days later, another big moment arrives. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopens on April 8 after receiving a significant update. Disney didn’t just touch this ride up—they gave it a meaningful refresh. With new ride vehicles and improved gameplay elements, it’s expected to feel like a noticeably different experience.

That also means demand will be high right away. If you’re hoping to ride it, you’ll want to plan strategically—either early in the day or closer to park closing.
By the time you hit the middle of the month, the runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend begins. These events always bring in a dedicated crowd, and even if you’re not part of it, you’ll feel the difference. Guests participating in races often spend the rest of their day inside the parks, which can shift wait times and crowd flow.

Toward the end of April, more events layer in. Large competitions at ESPN Wide World of Sports bring in additional guests, many of whom stay at the All-Star Resorts. If you’re booked at one of those hotels, expect more activity—especially in shared spaces like food courts and transportation areas.
There’s also a small but important update happening in Hollywood Studios. Fantasmic! will begin running at 9:00 PM starting April 24. It’s a seasonal adjustment, but one that can change how you structure your evening in the park.

And if you’re staying at All-Star Sports, you’ll benefit from the reopening of the Surfboard Bay Pool late in the month. It’s one of those changes that may not grab headlines, but it can make a real difference—especially for families building downtime into their trip.
What makes April interesting is how all of these updates overlap. You’ve got seasonal events, ride reopenings, schedule changes, and increased crowd levels all happening within a few weeks of each other.
That doesn’t make it a bad time to visit—it just makes it a time where planning matters more than you might expect.
