Disney World Extras That Cost Less Than You Expected

Cheaper Extras feature

Let’s all be honest by admitting that a Walt Disney World vacation doesn’t come cheap. Not only do you have all the straightforward to-be-expected expenses to contend with, but there are also always all those surprising additional costs that tend to pop up each and every time. Sometimes you feel suckered into splurging a little on what you initially think won’t be too much more. These often take the form of viable add-on options you’re convinced will bring you and your group even more magic during your Walt Disney World Resort stay. But additional extras can add up rather quickly. Furthermore, sometimes when the true cost of what you initially assumed was only a little extra is revealed to you, the shock can literally be jaw-dropping. But before you cynically shy away from the thought of even pursuing one of the extra offerings presented by Disney, you should know that not all additional experiences are overpriced. Here are just a couple of examples of Disney World extras that cost less than you would expect.

Miniature Golfing

Miniature golf is a fun, family-friendly experience that so many choose to opt for as an added extra. And there are two great locations right on Disney property where you can rightfully get in some miniature golfing. One is Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf. The other is Winter Summerland Miniature Golf. While each location presents a very different themed experience, the great news is that both offer affordable starting rates of just $14 per adult or $12 per child.

A Game of FootGolf

Miniature golf isn’t the only golfing extra you can expect to enjoy on your visit. It’s a known fact that Walt Disney World Resort is home to four champion golf courses—a definite win for more serious-minded golfers of all ages. And Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, in particular, offers up a most unique experience that appeals to both soccer players and golfers alike. It’s called FootGolf, a game that combines kicking a soccer ball into large holes on a golf-like course. Even better, getting in a game of FootGolf starts at just $17 a person for Walt Disney World Resort Guests and $22 for those staying off-property. For fans of this latest craze who want to get in more frequent game options, there’s also the Kicker’s Club, which is free to join and allows for the opportunity to play more FootGolf and save money while doing so via a punch card. Get five stamps and the sixth round is free!

Horseback Riding

Depending on the duration and experience at hand, most horseback riding locations charge anywhere between $20 and $120 per person, per hour. So, the fact that Tri-Circle-D Ranch, over at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, offers you the experience to saddle up for 45-minute horseback rides at a starting rate of $55 per person seems to fall right in with what should be expected. But given the fact that this is a Disney experience, you may have been thinking it would cost even more, right? It is, after all, the same price you pay for taking a more docile horse-drawn carriage ride that only lasts 25 minutes! On another note, for those visiting Tri-Circle-D Ranch with youngsters, 30-minute pony rides are also offered at a starting rate of just $8.

Kayak/Canoe Rentals

There are so many other magical extras offered up over at Disney’s Fort Wilderness in addition to all the good times provided at Tri-Circle-D Ranch. And while some offerings do admittedly exceed frugal budgets, it may be of interest to know that this is the place where you can actually rent out kayaks and canoes for a lighthearted and relaxing experience for the books. What’s even better is that both offerings only charge you around $13 an hour. No reservations are necessary as these rentals are all done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bike Rentals

A more conventional and forever-popular extracurricular activity you will find being offered around many Disney Resort locations is biking. Disney currently prices standard bicycle rental rates between $9 and $20, depending on duration and rental type. Helmets and child seats are also provided at no additional charge. There are also several locations that offer up more unique spins on traditional biking, like that family-fun endeavor of renting a multi-person surrey bike. The going rate for these starts somewhere within the $20 mark, depending on the amount of seating and intended duration.

Motorized Boat Rentals

Did you know that there are also options to rent a motorized boat at Disney World? One of the most popular pursuits with many folks is to rent a Sun Tracker Pontoon, which can accommodate up to 10 Guests at a time! And if you think it comes with a hefty price tag, think again. At just a $45 per half-hour rate, such an offering is surprisingly affordable for all that it entails. Motorized boat rentals are available at numerous marina locations throughout Disney World. The availability of additional motorized watercraft are subject to change.

Behind the Seeds Tour

When you hear about tours at Disney World do you automatically think about all those extra, overly expensive theme park VIP experiences that charge an arm and leg? If so, you’ve probably prematurely sworn off the intent to ever make Disney-exclusive behind-the-scenes touring plans. Well then, how about “behind the seeds” touring plans? That’s right, your answer to going on a Disney tour that’s actually affordable is waiting right inside the Land Pavilion over in EPCOT. It takes the form of the Behind the Seeds Tour, which offers you exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the inner workings of EPCOT’s well-known Living with the Land attraction. These tours only cost $35 a person, making it a definite option for those seeking Disney exclusiveness that’s both enlightening and inexpensive.

Haircut at Harmony Barber Shop

You’ve no doubt walked past Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street, U.S.A. a number of times while making your rounds through Magic Kingdom Park. And sure, you’ve heard of folks getting their hair cut and styled here, but perhaps you’ve shrugged it off as just another one of those highly obsessed-over Disney Park experiences that charge far too much for what is essentially only a haircut. Well, you’d be wrong on both accounts. Sure, it’s a “haircut” but it’s an entire Disney experience—a rite of passage for some! As for the former assumption that they charge too much, that too couldn’t be further from the truth. Depending on what you are going for exactly, most packages start right within the $20 or so range—a fairly comparable price when you consider more mundane barbershop services that don’t include Disney Magic in the experience.
