A familiar payment option is disappearing from certain Walt Disney World stores, and guests might not realize anything has changed until they're ready to make a purchase.
Disney gift cards have long been a favorite among vacation planners. Families often purchase them months before visiting, allowing them to set aside money for souvenirs, merchandise, and other vacation expenses.

But visitors shopping at Disney Springs are discovering that some businesses have stopped accepting these cards altogether.
The restrictions have already affected several retailers, including one that recently opened at the popular shopping destination.
And the changes aren't limited to Disney gift cards alone.
Disney Springs Retailers Make Unexpected Payment Changes
Disney Springs offers guests a different shopping experience from the four Walt Disney World theme parks.
Alongside Disney-operated merchandise locations, the district features popular national retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
However, not every business is following the same payment policies anymore.
Kenny the Pirate reported, that several Disney Springs retailers no longer accept Disney gift cards.

The first reported changes surfaced in August, when guests learned that Vera Bradley and Sephora had stopped allowing customers to use the cards.
Employees reportedly explained that the restrictions were limited to certain Disney Springs stores.
More recently, Vuori opened at Disney Springs in October without accepting Disney gift cards.
That makes three specifically identified retailers where guests need to use another payment option.
The development could catch visitors off guard, particularly those who have used Disney gift cards at other locations throughout the resort.
After all, a guest might spend the morning shopping at a Disney-operated store without any issues before encountering different rules at another retailer.
More Disney Payment Options Are Also Being Restricted
The changes could create additional complications for Disney Resort hotel guests and Disney Rewards cardholders.
According to the report, the affected retailers also have restrictions involving Disney Rewards Redemption Cards and purchases charged to Walt Disney World Resort hotel rooms.
These payment methods are popular because they allow guests to simplify how they manage their vacation expenses.

For example, someone staying at a Disney hotel might prefer to charge eligible purchases directly to their room rather than pay separately at every location.
Others might have Disney Rewards Dollars they planned to spend during their trip.
However, those visitors may need to use a different payment method at certain Disney Springs businesses.
The situation makes it increasingly important to confirm which payment options a retailer accepts before shopping.
Disney Gift Cards Still Work Throughout the Theme Parks
Despite the restrictions, Disney World isn't eliminating gift cards across the entire property.
Disney-owned stores at Disney Springs continue accepting Disney gift cards, according to the report.
Meanwhile, merchandise locations inside all four Walt Disney World theme parks still accept them.
That includes Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.
The report also confirms that third-party vendors inside the theme parks continue accepting Disney gift cards.
For guests primarily interested in purchasing Disney-themed souvenirs, that means the cards remain a convenient payment option.

However, visitors planning a shopping trip to Disney Springs should understand that different retailers may have different policies.
The distinction is especially important because Disney Springs welcomes guests without requiring theme park admission.
Someone visiting the district specifically to shop might not have another Disney location on their itinerary where they planned to spend their gift card balance.
Guests Should Plan Ahead Before Shopping
Many Disney vacationers purchase gift cards because they can sometimes find them at discounted prices.
Others receive them as presents or use them to establish spending budgets before traveling.
Disney has even introduced the ability to store gift cards in the My Disney Experience app, making them more convenient to access.
But while the cards remain useful across much of Walt Disney World, their acceptance at Disney Springs is no longer universal.

Guests planning to visit Vera Bradley, Sephora, or Vuori should bring another payment method.
For other independently operated stores, asking about accepted payment options before making a purchase could save time and frustration.
There is currently no confirmation in the report that additional Disney Springs businesses will stop accepting gift cards, and the restrictions do not represent a property-wide ban.
Still, the changes are worth remembering, particularly as visitors prepare for holiday shopping trips.
Disney gift cards aren't going away from Walt Disney World, but guests now have fewer places to use them at Disney Springs.
And for anyone planning to rely entirely on gift cards during their next visit, that difference could matter more than expected.
