Visitors to Disney World got an unexpected surprise this morning as a tornado warning was issued for the area, forcing many to take shelter.

While the immediate danger has passed, strong winds continue to impact the parks, and guests are encouraged to remain cautious throughout the day.
The tornado warning was in effect from 8:35 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., covering areas of Orange and Osceola counties, home to both Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected near Clermont, moving northeast at 35 mph. Fortunately, the warning expired without major incidents.
Although the tornado has passed, a wind advisory remains in place until 7 p.m. Strong gusts of up to 35 mph could cause temporary ride closures and transportation disruptions, making it important for guests to stay informed.
How Disney World Handles Severe Weather
Disney is well-prepared for Florida’s unpredictable weather. When conditions become unsafe, outdoor attractions, entertainment, and certain transportation options are temporarily suspended. Guests can expect that roller coasters, high-altitude rides, and open-air transportation like the Skyliner may be impacted.
Additionally, Cast Members are trained to direct guests to indoor areas when necessary, ensuring safety remains a top priority. While some experiences may be temporarily unavailable, the parks still offer plenty of ways to enjoy the day despite the wind.
Tips for Enjoying Disney World in Strong Winds
- Expect Delays and Closures: Outdoor attractions like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Expedition Everest could close periodically, so be flexible with your plans.
- Use Indoor Spaces to Your Advantage: Many attractions, dining locations, and shops provide a break from the wind while still offering fun experiences.
- Check Disney’s App for Updates: Ride closures and transportation delays can change throughout the day, so staying updated will help make the most of your visit.
The worst of the weather has passed, but with strong winds lingering, guests should plan accordingly. Whether taking in a show, enjoying a meal, or browsing Disney Springs, there are still plenty of ways to make the most of the day.
