Toy Story Mania has long been one of the standout attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios—a colorful, fast-paced competition that appeals to kids, teens, and adults alike. The ride still pulls big crowds and often ends up on guests’ must-do lists regardless of how many times they’ve played. But Disney’s latest update about the attraction has sparked a different kind of conversation.

The update isn’t dramatic. In fact, it’s the complete lack of change that has fans concerned. Disney hasn’t announced any upcoming improvements, new scenes, or refreshed gameplay. While that may sound harmless at first, longtime visitors know Toy Story Mania was originally built to be updated regularly. Its screen-based format made it easy for Imagineers to rotate in new games themed to movies or seasons. And yet, that flexibility hasn’t been used in many years.

In contrast, Disney World as a whole is going through a major period of transformation. Entire lands are being remodeled, expansions are underway, and several rides have received modern effects or storyline upgrades. Against that backdrop, Toy Story Mania is standing still—and fans are beginning to wonder why.
It’s not a matter of popularity. The ride continues to draw heavy lines. Its gameplay is still fun and engaging. But with the Toy Story franchise expanding again—including the upcoming fifth installment—many expected the attraction to evolve in some way. The absence of even small enhancements feels out of step with Disney’s usual approach to keeping experiences fresh.

Some guests worry the ride has entered a “maintenance only” era, where it stays open and operational but no longer receives creative attention. Other attractions in Disney World have gone down that path over the years, and it slowly becomes obvious when updates stop coming. With Hollywood Studios actively reworking areas and retiring older experiences, it feels especially unusual to see one of the park’s most popular family rides stuck in place.

But there is room for optimism. The next Toy Story movie could easily serve as the catalyst for a revitalized set of games inside the attraction. Imagine a new digital round featuring Forky, or a comedic level starring Ducky and Bunny. The format is there. The technology is there. The love from guests is definitely there.
Until then, fans are left hoping Disney hasn’t forgotten how much potential Toy Story Mania still has. The ride continues to deliver joy every day, but the recent “business as usual” update has created a wave of concern that suggests people are ready for something new—and hoping Disney eventually feels the same way.
