Disney World Monorail Keeps Guests Stuck in One Place for Four Hours

Walt Disney World Resort just gave guests an unexpected Monorail experience—but not in the way you might think. As part of its brand-new “National Monorail Day” celebration, Disney shared a four-hour Monorail ride experience, virtually keeping guests in one place for an extended journey around The Most Magical Place on Earth.

A Unique Disney Monorail Journey

Since its debut alongside Magic Kingdom Park on October 1, 1971, the Walt Disney World Monorail has been one of the resort’s most recognizable features. Originally servicing only Magic Kingdom, the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the system expanded in 1982 with the opening of EPCOT. The addition of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort station completed the current circuit.

The Monorail has always been a fan-favorite form of transportation, offering stunning views of Cinderella Castle, Seven Seas Lagoon, and Spaceship Earth. Walt Disney envisioned the Disneyland Monorail as a cutting-edge public transit system, though it has mostly remained a novelty outside of Disney Parks. Today, Walt Disney World Resort boasts the busiest Monorail system in the United States, rivaling installations in Las Vegas and international airports.

To celebrate this long-running transportation marvel, Disney declared March 6 as “National Monorail Day,” commemorating the Mark VI Monorail trains that have been in service since 1989. Disney announced the new tradition with an Instagram post:

Mark VI Monorail + March 6 = National Monorail Day! 🎉🚝🎉🚝🎉🚝🎉🚝🎉🚝🎉

While guests weren’t physically trapped on a Monorail for hours, Walt Disney World Resort delivered the next best thing: an extended four-hour ambiance video showcasing the journey between EPCOT and the Transportation and Ticket Center. The video, released on the official Disney Parks YouTube channel, offers a relaxing ride through one of Disney’s most beloved transportation routes, allowing fans to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Monorail from home.

Notably, the video does not include the Magic Kingdom Express or Disney Resort hotel Monorail lines, but it still provides a tranquil, uninterrupted ride that captures the magic of Disney transportation.

Fans Want More

Disney Parks fans immediately embraced the video, with many requesting similar content from other Walt Disney World Resort areas.

“This is the content I’m looking for from Disney Parks – simple, but let me hear and see the sights,” @TatooedDisNerd wrote. “I don’t need background music or vloggers chatting constantly! Give me more of this!”

“I never knew how badly I needed this until now,” @jasmineraemcgau added. “Thank you Disney. Whoever did this need a raise.”
