On Tuesday, June 10, a technical issue caused a significant disruption at Walt Disney World Resort, as the Monorail system was shut down for part of the day. Guests hoping to use the Monorail to travel between the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT found themselves stranded at the parks until alternate transportation was arranged.
The Monorail is one of the most iconic forms of transportation at Walt Disney World Resort, and the system has been serving guests for decades. It connects several areas across the resort, including the Express Monorail between the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and Magic Kingdom Park, the Disney Resort Monorail that serves Magic Kingdom Park, the TTC, and its surrounding Disney Resort hotels, and the EPCOT line connecting the TTC and EPCOT. The unexpected shutdown reportedly impacted the EPCOT line.
Redditor u/GalaxyC7 noticed the problem and asked fellow Disney Parks fans for advice about using the Monorail.
“I saw the Monorail from EPCOT to MK was down, are they all down today or is it just the one?” the guest wrote. “We went and parked at Comtempo, hoping to not have to walk over to MK but if we do no big deal.”
The user hoped to avoid the 10-minute walk from Disney’s Contemporary Resort to Magic Kingdom Park, especially in the sweltering summer heat. “This heat might make it more trouble than it’s worth,” they added.
By the time this article was published, at least part of the Monorail system was still operating. A video shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @akademanda showed Monorail Coral leaking during a heavy rainstorm on Tuesday afternoon.
