One of the biggest transformations in Magic Kingdom history is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
Disney World has permanently removed the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island as work continues on Piston Peak National Park and the massive Villains Land expansion.
For longtime visitors, this isn't simply another attraction replacement. An entire section of the park that helped define Frontierland for decades has disappeared.
Now, new aerial footage provides another look at just how dramatically the landscape is changing.
Construction Is Moving Forward at Magic Kingdom
Theme park photographer Bioreconstruct recently shared aerial footage on X showing the enormous construction area.

The update also revealed that a tower crane has recently been added for construction of Cars Ridge Run Rally. According to Bioreconstruct, some portions of the attraction will be underground.
Meanwhile, crews are performing numerous excavations throughout the future Villains Land site as infrastructure work continues.
It's a remarkable sight for anyone who remembers what this portion of Magic Kingdom looked like before construction began.
Instead of the Rivers of America surrounding Tom Sawyer Island, guests are now looking at an enormous construction zone preparing Magic Kingdom for its next generation.
Piston Peak Is Replacing a Familiar Landscape
Piston Peak National Park will bring the world of Cars (2006) into Frontierland, though Disney is designing the area around the look and atmosphere of America's national parks.
Cars Ridge Run Rally will become one of its major attractions.
Beyond Piston Peak, Disney is developing Villains Land, another major expansion that will feature Disney's famous animated villains.
Together, these projects will completely reshape this side of Magic Kingdom.
That's exciting for guests who want new rides and experiences, but there's another side to the transformation.
Disney didn't build these additions on unused land alone. The company permanently removed attractions and scenery that generations of guests associated with Magic Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom Is Entering a Different Era
Magic Kingdom has always evolved.
Still, the removal of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island feels different because Disney eliminated an entire environment rather than replacing a single ride.
The park will also become even more focused on established Disney franchises.
Some fans will welcome that change. Piston Peak and Villains Land could deliver some of the most ambitious attractions Disney has created for Magic Kingdom.
Others will miss the slower, nostalgic atmosphere that disappeared with the river and island.
Either way, there is no returning to the Magic Kingdom that existed before construction began.
The latest aerial footage makes that especially clear.
Disney isn't simply preparing a few new attractions. It's rebuilding a massive portion of its flagship Florida theme park, and Magic Kingdom will look and feel considerably different when the work is finished.
