Guests arriving at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park this week are walking into a construction zone right at the front door.
Green Barriers at the Gate

Blog Mickey reported on July 15 that green plastic barricades had been set up around a section of the main entrance to Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, with Walt Disney World Resort actively laying new concrete in the affected area. The outlet's photo of the work in progress tells the story clearly — a sharp visual contrast between the fresh dark brown pavement being installed and the worn, cracked, faded beige walkways that have been in place for years.
Construction is underway in a high-traffic stretch just past the security checkpoint, near the Rainforest Cafe entrance, in the area guests move through before reaching the actual theme park gate and the Guest Services office. It's one of the first things visitors encounter on their way into the park, making the visible state of the old pavement a particularly overdue problem to address.

Of course, access to the fourth Central Florida Disney park hasn't been shut off. Both the main entrance and the alternate route through the Rainforest Cafe remain open to guests throughout the work. Some navigating around the barricaded sections may be required depending on how far the pour has progressed on a given day, but no significant delays to the park arrival experience are expected.
Walt Disney World Resort has not issued any statement about the repaving project, which aligns with how the resort typically handles routine maintenance that doesn't require closures or meaningfully disrupt the guest experience.

It's unclear whether Walt Disney World Resort intends to continue replacing the entrance walkways in additional phases — though the visible cracking throughout the surrounding pavement suggests the project may extend beyond what's currently behind the barricades. Whether similar repaving is planned at other Walt Disney World theme parks or Disney Springs hasn't been addressed.
