Disney Restaurant Closes Months After Man in Scuba Suit Stole $20,000, Swam Away

Paddlefish at Disney Springs finds itself closed once again, marking another chapter in a troubled 2025 for the waterfront Table Service restaurant. Monday's December 22 closure prevented the Walt Disney World Resort dining establishment from serving guests during one of the year's most lucrative holiday periods, leaving numerous diners without their confirmed reservations.

The boat-shaped restaurant previously made headlines for one of the most unusual criminal incidents in the history of Walt Disney World Resort.

September's Extraordinary Heist

The Paddlefish restaurant became the target of an audacious robbery shortly after midnight on September 15, 2025. A suspect wearing full scuba diving gear approached the Disney Springs establishment via Lake Buena Vista, taking advantage of the restaurant's unique waterfront location.

After surfacing near the distinctive boat-shaped building, the individual entered Paddlefish and allegedly used restraints to bind several Disney cast members working inside. The perpetrator reportedly made off with approximately $20,000 in cash before retreating to Lake Buena Vista and escaping underwater using the same aquatic route that brought him to the property.

Authorities investigating the underwater heist have not publicly announced the suspect's identification or capture as of the publication date of this article.

December Brings Different Problems

Monday's closure stems from entirely different circumstances than September's robbery. BlogMickey reported on December 22 that Paddlefish failed to open for scheduled business, disrupting dining plans for numerous Walt Disney World Resort guests who had made advance reservations.

The restaurant operated normally through Sunday evening, December 21, providing no warning of impending operational difficulties. Visitors arriving on Monday discovered posted signage claiming the venue was “closed for a private event.”

That explanation, however, masked the actual problem preventing operations. Reports indicate that a sewage leak developed somewhere within the Paddlefish facility after Sunday's closing. The plumbing failure created conditions that required immediate attention and prevented the restaurant from safely serving its guests.

Uncertain Reopening Schedule

No official statements from Walt Disney World Resort have addressed the Paddlefish closure or confirmed when operations will resume. Disney cast members working at Disney Springs expressed hope that repairs could be completed quickly enough to allow for a reopening on Tuesday, December 23.

Paddlefish remained closed as this article went to publication, leaving Tuesday diners uncertain whether their reservations would be honored or canceled.

The My Disney Experience app shows continuing availability for Paddlefish reservations on December 23, 2025. The digital booking system's availability suggests that Walt Disney World Resort anticipates successfully completing the sewage repairs within the compressed timeline necessary for Tuesday's operations.
