Some Disney World guests are finding that their hotel reservations aren't going according to plan as of late.
Walt Disney World Resort is undergoing extensive changes, with major construction projects underway across its theme parks and hotels. Magic Kingdom is preparing for its Cars and Disney Villains expansions, while Disney's Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom are getting new lands of their own.

The resort's hotels are also receiving significant attention. Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, All-Star Movies Resort, and Port Orleans Resort – Riverside are among the properties undergoing guest room refurbishments, while other hotels are receiving exterior maintenance and upgrades to their public areas.
While these projects are intended to improve the guest experience, some visitors have reported losing their original hotel reservations, being reassigned to different rooms, or facing unexpected changes when they arrive for their vacations.
Disney World Guests Report Unexpected Hotel Changes
One family claims Disney attempted to relocate them to another hotel on the day they arrived.
Sharing their experience on Reddit, the guest explained that they had booked a family suite at Disney's Art of Animation Resort for an August vacation.
However, when they arrived at approximately 5:30 p.m., their room still hadn't been assigned. According to the guest, a cast member informed them that there were no available rooms at the resort and offered to move them to Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside instead.
Disney reportedly described the change as an upgrade, although the guest pointed out that their original suite was more expensive.

The family also had another reason for choosing Art of Animation. The guest's husband uses an electric convenience vehicle (ECV), and they had deliberately booked a hotel with access to the Disney Skyliner to make traveling around the resort easier.
They refused the proposed move without suitable alternative arrangements and requested compensation for any additional costs. Eventually, Disney found an available room at Art of Animation, allowing the family to continue with their original plans.
Other guests recalled similar incidents from previous years.
One visitor claimed that Disney had moved their reservation from Animal Kingdom Lodge to Pop Century Resort just one week before their trip. The change meant moving from a Deluxe Resort to a Value Resort, which offers fewer amenities and typically charges considerably less per night.

Disney adjusted the price accordingly, but the guest said no additional compensation was provided.
“We do love Pop now but we’re very upset during that trip,” they wrote.
The guest later clarified that the incident had happened more than two years earlier.
Another family reported being relocated to an entirely different hotel on their arrival day after traveling with a child.
“It was such a mess and I’m still irritated years later,” the guest wrote.
They suspected that unexpected maintenance issues had caused the problem but said Disney offered no compensation beyond continued access to their originally booked resort.
Disney World Refurbishments Lead to Another Room Downgrade
Another Disney World guest revealed that their hotel room had been downgraded just two weeks before their scheduled arrival.
According to their Reddit post, Disney attributed the change to refurbishments and reassigned them to a room on another floor, facing the opposite side of the hotel.
The guest had specifically booked accommodation with a theme park view so they could watch Magic Kingdom's nighttime fireworks from their balcony.
That was no longer possible following the change.

Disney offered a $500 gift card as compensation, equivalent to $100 per night of the guest's five-night vacation. However, the visitor was unhappy with the arrangement, particularly because they had already paid for Club Level accommodation.
Club Level is one of Disney World's premium hotel offerings, providing access to exclusive lounges with complimentary refreshments, alongside personalized guest services. Guests pay extra for these amenities, with certain room categories also offering views of the theme parks.
“Needless to say, not feeling very magical,” the guest wrote.
They later explained that the fireworks view was particularly important because of their disability.
“I just expected better from Disney and am pretty disappointed.”
Another guest replying to the discussion recalled receiving a similar downgrade from a theme park view room to a lake view room. Although Disney provided a larger suite and $300 in gift cards, they said they would have preferred their original accommodation.
Several guests suggested that the original poster request additional compensation or ask Disney to arrange alternative fireworks viewing.
The complaints come as Disney continues extensive hotel renovation work across the resort.

At Disney's Contemporary Resort, for example, phased refurbishments are scheduled through late 2027. Projects affect areas including Bay Lake Tower and the main atrium, while exterior maintenance may also interfere with views from certain locations.
Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is undergoing room renovations through August 2027, while work at Animal Kingdom Lodge's Jambo House is scheduled through January 2027. Other properties, including Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, are also experiencing construction.
Disney generally warns guests that they may see or hear construction during their stays, although that doesn't necessarily mean their reservations will change.
